2026 BMW M2 racing in an exclusive Walkaround video dissected

BMW has been teasing its new entry car for months, but we hardly knew that it would have a four -cylinder engine. The M2 race uses a variation of the B48 engine in 230i, but with different software that increases the power to 308 hp. This 2.0-liter engine from Turboch makes 420 Nm (310 LB-FT), somewhat from the 400 Nm (295 LB-FT) of the street car. Racing teams cannot adapt the performance like in the old M2 CS race. His successor has a fixed performance structure.

But the M2 race has more than the surprising engine selection. The intention during development was to reduce the running costs compared to the outgoing M2-CS race of the F87 generation. It uses the ZF automatic transmission from road traffic 230i to send electricity to the rear wheels and a limit slip differential. BMW even held the front parking sensors to avoid costly changes. As you can imagine, they don’t work. The only track machine also uses the same bonnet as the normal M2, but with quick publication locks.

Although it is a four-banger, the racing car, based in G87, is really loud. It is possible by using an output system that is adapted from the M4 GT4. Further changes compared to a regular M2 are forged black mat wheels that are not available for Baby M.

On the back, the familiar spoiler is an upgrade of the Metalog M Performance Parts. BMW M Motorsport added quick release locks for the trunk and adapted the diffuser from the G87. The M2 race receives a carbon fiber roof and a tank fillel on the quarterly glass to feed the fuel cell behind the seat. An optional passenger seat is available for the exhibited cabin.

Even this interior with naked bones with a welded cage borrowed elements from the standard M2. A good part of the Carbon Faser Center console is taken from the donor car. The double screens from which the iDrive is composed are transmitted. As you can imagine, the menus are adapted to show information that is relevant for racing cars. So do not look for all functions of the G87. There will be an air conditioning system that will undoubtedly be helpful on a hot race day.

Elsewhere, we also learned that there are non-adjustable KW shock absorbers as well as parts derived from CSL as well as adjustable anti-roll rods at the front and back. Overall, the M2 racing weighs 1.498 kilograms (£ 3,30). This makes it easier for 232 kg than the regular six-cylinder M2 street car.

Price? It starts at € 98,000 or € 3,000 more than the original price for the M2 CS race. However, the latter came out five years ago and we saw how prices have increased in almost every industry.
