2026 BMW M2 Track Package makes Spy Video debut

BMW has been selling the M2 for a few years with M parts, but it is not. Instead, the G87 appears with new track focusing hardware. Nevertheless, the rear wheel drive machine does not lose the license plate because the optional package keeps it on the street. According to official preview images and a few espionage recordings, the sharper M2 now appears in action in a new two-minute video.

It is hardly a surprise that BMW tested the prototype at the Nürburgring. Lap records have recently set it here. The car immediately looks recognizable, not only because of its Sao Paulo yellow color and its familiar license plates. The rear wing is far greater than anything but anything in the M2 catalog of the M -performance parts. The canards cannot be overlooked at the front, as the type of equipment that is usually reserved for serious track toys.

The recordings on the track indicate that BMW shaved some weight from the M2 compared to the standard car. In its lightest European specification, the compact coupé taps the scale to 1,700 kilograms, while the US version weighs £ 3,770. Both numbers are for the M2 CS. This test car looks through corners of agile, whether this is up to a diet, chassis optimizations or both, probably with the suspension disorders used.

We ask ourselves whether BMW will limit the Track package to new orders or provide it as retrofitting for existing M2S. In any case, it should work with the regular model and the hotter M2 CS. Since faster lap times are the goal, BMW could probably only combine it with the automatic. A manual may be more appealing, but the modern car is faster in a circuit. Ideally, the type of transmission should not be tied to the track package so that you can select between the six-speed circuit and the eight-speed steptronic.

It is particularly fascinating that BMW has the effort of the camouflage of the bonnet. Could the Track package address one of the weak points of the M2 CS with a carbon hood? Unless this upgrade is of course reserved for a potential M2 -CSL, should Munich give it the green light. BMW also covered the fenders, the rear bumper and the trunk lid and alluded to additional changes in the body. The latter is the M2 CS ducktail spoiler, which makes sense in view of the new oversized wing.

The chances are good that this upgrade corresponds more than in the eye. BMW itself describes it as a “Track Day package to deliver pure performance”. And this is not the only novelty that the M division has in the pipeline for 2026. We learned next year that an M2 XDRIVE is only automatic. However, purists do not have to worry: the manual of the rear wheel drive does not go anywhere.
