BMW is preparing to start one of its most important electric vehicles so far: the 2027 BMW i3, a fully electrical limousine that runs on the next generation of the next generation of the brand. Cod names NA0 Inside, this i3 is far from the quirky assembly line that it replaces. It represents a new step into the future – weaker, advanced and constructed by the ground up as EV. It will be the second model that uses the new class platform after the purely electric IX3 SUV, which will later enter production this year.
The series production of the i3 sedan is scheduled to begin in July 2026 in the Munich -based plant of BMW. This factory is located in the middle of a large transition and until the end of 2027 only electric vehicles produced a large shift for a work that is mainly known for internal combustion models and motor production. The models for the US market will roll off the line in November 2026 with the production of the San Luis Potosi plant from BMW in Mexico. Production for Europe will continue until October 2034, which points out that BMW has a long life cycle for this vehicle.
The model setup
The model setup will be diverse and include several performance levels that reconcile efficiency and sportiness. The area is expected to contain the i3 20, i3 40, i3 40 XDrive, i3 50, i3 50 XDrive and the high-performance I3 M60 XDrive. Early reports indicate impressive technical figures: Depending on the market -specific test cycles, the i3 50 could deliver range up to 900 kilometers (about 560 miles). Inside, the 2027 i3 breaks with a clean, technical cabin based on BMWS brand new iDrive X operating system. One of the most striking features is the panoramic view display-a head-up projection system with full width, which includes the base of the windshield. The traditional instrument cluster was removed, which opened the dashboard and creates a spacious, minimalist feeling. Information that is typically displayed in the Gauge cluster is now projected directly into the driver’s line of sight, supported by a large central touchscreen display with a diagonal measurement of 17.9 inches. The steering wheel was also redesigned, whereby spokes were only presented in the 12 and 6 clock positions to improve visibility and the futuristic cockpit layout were presented.
BMW also focuses on sustainability and digital intelligence in the interior of new class with recycled and renewable materials. The iDrive X system integrates AIS assistants, speech recognition and regular updates and creates a user experience that develops and improves over time. Extended reality functions, advanced driver help systems and navigation instruments of the next generation are expected to be part of the package.
A new design language
With regard to the design, the 2027 BMW i3 sedan will carry out a large part of the visual identity, which is introduced by the 2023 Vision NEE class concept. Spy shots confirm a minimalist aesthetics with a closed kidney grid, slim LED lighting, pop-out door handles and aerodynamic wheels. It is unclear whether BMW will offer a frunker as you did in the original i3 fluid rearback. BMW includes the NACS charging connection, which gives you access to a variety of charging stations.
We expect the first Na0 BMW i3 models arrive in the USA in early 2027.
