No, we didn’t misunderstand the model year in the heading. Although BMW officially unveiled the new IX3 in the United States, it will not arrive until model year 2027. The company plans to start North American deliveries next summer. In the meantime, the electric SUV celebrated its US debut at a dedicated event in Bathhouse Studios in New York City at the weekend.
Instead of waiting for the Los Angeles Auto Show until the second half of November, BMW decided that it was best to present the USSPEC IX3 now. It was an intelligent step because cars that debut on Auto shows have to compete for attention. In NYC, all eyes were on the first no class model of the electrical era.
BMWblog took part in the event and conquered the IX3 for the first time in black sapphire. BMW brought an actual US version with amber-colored seed reflectors. We admit that these 1048 -M wheels are probably the least preferred design. Fortunately, customers can expose the 20-inch alloys against other styles of the same size or to 21 and 22-inch sets. It is not immediately obvious, but the vehicle shown was equipped with the optional M sports package.

Most IX3S that we have seen so far had the digital white interior, but BMW USA chose a darker cabin to add the exterior. It also skipped the unconventional steering wheel in favor of the new M wheel with the “M” badge on the Airbag cover. This design, which is only available in black, is not exactly traditional either, but we dare, it is more conventional than the alternative. It replaces the vertical spokes at 12 and 6 a.m. by one at 4 and 8.
BMW USA has not completed the prices for the IX3, but we know that the 50 XDrive will start at less than 60,000 US dollars. At the beginning of 2027, a 40 XDrive will connect the installation with less than 55,000 US dollars. The cheaper version will probably use a smaller battery, where BMW quotes a range of “just more than 300 miles” compared to “up to 400 miles” for the 50 XDRIVE. These are preliminary estimates based on the EPA test cycle. As we recently found out, there is also a more affordable 40-SDRIVE with a single engine with rear wheel drive.
BMW will do the IX3 bound in the United States in its brand new Debrecen factory in Hungary. That will not change in 2027, even if production in San Luis PotosÃ, Mexico begins. North American models will still come from Hungary. In China, a Langrad-X3 (“Na6”) will be produced exclusively for the local market in China next summer.
