2027 BMW M5 facelift with smaller kidney grilles and updated lighting

BMW’s rethinking of the 5 Series facelift seems to extend directly to the M5. New spy shots show a camouflaged G90 prototype that differs significantly from the test car photographed earlier this year – especially from the front. The front design appears to be an evolution of the previous design language and retains the classic grille. As you can see, unlike the other test car in February, the kidney grilles are no longer integrated into the headlights. The headlights themselves also appear to have a revised shape and no longer flank the black horizontal band seen on previous prototypes.

Of course, nothing is official at this point. After all, BMW could be playing a trick with the camouflage. These may not be the final headlights; These can be placeholders that are only used during testing. Although the headlights and grille look different than before, the front bumper design is unchanged. It remains just as aggressive and features numerous air intakes to cool the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8.

Since the kidneys are now smaller, there is no longer any space in the radiator grille for the radar sensor. Instead, it was probably relocated to the lower part of the bumper, just below the license plate. This will tidy up the top area, although the sensor will likely still stand out when the camouflage is removed. With the new iX3, BMW managed to hide it behind a glossy black fascia, but doing the same here was probably deemed too costly, as the 5 Series is getting a mid-cycle facelift rather than an entirely new generation.

This M5 prototype offers more than just an updated front fascia. BMW seems to already be using production-ready taillights. The camouflage reveals revised graphics similar to those of the upcoming 3 Series and i3 sedans. However, the taillight cluster itself appears to have been carried over as its shape, size and positioning appear to be unchanged.

While BMW is apparently reducing the influence of the Neue Klasse on the exterior, the interior is undergoing a much more comprehensive overhaul. Everything you love or loathe about the iX3’s interior technology should carry over. In addition to the new 17.9-inch iDrive

While the extent of the exterior revisions remains unclear, expect a significant change to the interior. It is assumed that BMW will upgrade the interior through the more generous use of Alcantara. The updated M5 is still a long way off, with market launch not expected until the second half of 2027. Next year should be full of spy photos that will help fill in the remaining design gaps.
