While the 2027 BMW X5 is still a long way off, new information is still trickling in as the weeks go by. The latest leak names the upcoming X5’s powertrain and trim levels, confirms the production schedule we’ve reported on in the past, and also hints at a new color. The information comes from longtime Bimmerpost User and info leak Ynguldyn confirming the vehicle’s launch for August 2026. Later in the year – December – BMW will introduce four more variants.
G65 X5 powertrains confirmed

We’ve known for some time that the G65 BMW X5 will come with hybrid, electric and a range of internal combustion engine options. The latest information assigns official trim levels and a schedule to the variants. When the model launches, US offerings will only include the “40x” (likely X5 40 xDrive), and a diesel X5 will also be introduced in markets outside the US. No surprises; The U.S.’s chances of getting a diesel have almost never been lower. However, customers will have significantly more options available to them by the end of 2026. The United States will still have the option for a rear-wheel drive X5 40. In addition to the “M60ex”, there will also be the “50ex” in all markets, which probably refers to the in-line six-cylinder PHEV X5. Most likely, the X5 M60e xDrive will combine V8 power with electrification. Finally, the “iX5 60x” is also included in the leak. We assume the iX5 60 xDrive could be followed by another more powerful EV trim, although this isn’t specified in the leak. There is also no word on the hydrogen-powered model.
Despite having different powertrains, the G65 should look more or less identical inside and out, no matter which powertrain you choose. Our first look at the interior of the X5 shows the New Class chassis. And all external indicators point to the design of the New Class. We still don’t know exactly how much power each G65 variant will make. But don’t expect anything less than the 375 hp that the current base SUV makes.
New colors for the G65 X5

In addition to a production schedule – probably the most interesting news – we also receive information about a new color. Vancouver Green will be available on the G65 and could join another new color that, according to the same (generally reliable) leak, will also be available in Spartanburg: Gray Pine. While Gray Pine certainly sounds like a muted gray-green, Vancouver Green could be a deeper green similar to famous BMW greens of the past like Boston Green or Oxford Green. But we’ll just have to wait and see.
