“Big demand for M2 CS”

It was exactly a month since BMW has lost the wraps from the M2 CS. In the four weeks since then we have heard numerous complaints about the lack of a manual and a carbon fiber hood. It also skipped the Carbon Front splinter and the yellow day running lights of the last CS cars. In addition, the price sales are considerably higher than that of the old F87. Despite the criticism, competitive sport has a strong start in relation to customer interest.

We spoke to Sylvia Neubauer, Vice President of customers, brands and sales at BMW M, to get insights into the perception of the second generation M2-CS. Orders are already strong and there is “big demand”. In fact, the number of construction flashes for certain markets has already been increased by “many units”.

When asked which three markets so far, Sylvia said that the United States came first. This is followed by Germany and a little surprisingly China. BMW has not announced how many cars are made, but a one-year production run, similar to other current CS models, is expected. There are probably fewer than 2,000 units, although this number depends on customer demand.

As a reference, the larger M4 CS was limited to 1,700 cars. It entered production in July 2024 and has already been removed by configurators. Nevertheless, there is a new output VR46, but only 92 cars are planned.

In a related note, Sylvia pointed out a slow start to a faster introduction of the individual surfaces for the M2. While the work in San Luis Potosi in Mexico cannot keep up with Dingolfing or Spartanburg with special color availability, the processes are accelerated and the situation gradually improves.

The M2 is currently offered in Voodoo Blue, Java Green, Grigio Telesto, Twilight Purple, Frozen Portimao Blue and Frozen Pure Gray. Get the hotter CS and you can order competitive sport in Velvet Blue.

The G87 is expected to remain in production by the end of the decade, which gives BMW enough time to expand the color palette. In addition to adding, the remaining four-year run also opens the door for BMW M to further improve the M2 formula. How? An XDrive version could be in the pipeline and then possibly even a CSL.
