The quarterly statements of a car manufacturer are primarily intended for investors, but also relevant for fans. BMW not only explained how it was carried out in the first three months of the year, but also confirmed plans for a second generation X7, which was then tested for the first time. We discovered another treat in the long document: a breakdown of the sales per model or at least something nearby.
While BMW completes the US sales through individual models, it reports different worldwide. The 1 and 2 series are just as grouped, as are the X1 and X2, with other couples cover the larger vehicles in the line -up. We have already reported that the demand for Z4 rose until March, while the XM suffered a significant setback, and strangely, the i3 and i8 somehow made it onto the list. But what about everything else? In the following table it is partially clarified how the German luxury brand occurred worldwide in the first quarter of 2025.
The 3 series -limousine/touring became predictable and achieved 117,719 sales in the first quarter. However, BMW’s core model decreased by 9% compared to the same period of 2024. The X1/X2 crossovers of the entry level took 31.8% after a massive jump of 31.8% and reached 106,565 units. These numbers include full electrical variants and the Langrad-X1/IX1 sold in China.

We are pleased that the 5 Series/6 series climb to the last step of the podium. The couple was impressive 29.2%and reached 71,301 units. We imagine that the 5s have led the heavy lifting when you consider that the 6s were triggered years ago in most markets. The “G32” stayed in India for a while, but was ultimately replaced by the Long Wheelbase 5 series last year.
Don’t be surprised to see the X3/X4 only in fourth place with 71,136 units, around 27.5% compared to the interval from January to March 2024. The market launch of the G45 occurred in the fourth quarter of 2024 in Europe and the USA before entering other regions. This means that the X3 was not fully available in early 2025. The X4 was probably also played a role in the weaker numbers.
You can see how the other models were carried out, but it is worth noting that the decline of the IX was expected. The polarizing SUV was just getting a life cycle impulse. As a rule, sales slowed down during the transition between the outgoing model and the arrival of the converted version. BMW only started producing the updated IX in its Dingolfing plant in early March.
