BMW double Audi on the US market

Despite the increasing challenges of tariffs and market uncertainties, BMW is expanding the sales gap over the German rival Audi in the USA. In the mid -2025, the numbers draw a clear picture: BMW not only leads – it dominates.

The Scorecard: BMW against Audi, 2025 year after year

From January to June 2025, BMW from North America sold 178,499 vehicles. In contrast, Audi of America only moved 81,951 units – less than half of the BMW total amount. This number does not even contain the Mini brand, which would only expand the lead. The context is even more impressive. The BMW turnover rose by 1.6% compared to the previous year and showed a modest but constant growth in a volatile market. In the meantime, Audi sales have decreased by 12%and signal deeper challenges with the product line -up, demand or the price strategy.

The SUV battle: BMW leads in every segment

The success of BMW is largely SUV-controlled, and the brand flourishes across all sizes. The constant bestseller of the BMW, the X5, collected 33,588 units and exceeded Audi’s Q7 by more than 3: 1 (only 9,975 sold). And while the Q7 has aged, its poor performance shows a clear problem with the fatigue of products.

In the compact SUV room, BMW holds another commanding lead:

  • BMW X3: 29.029 sold
  • BMW X1: 13,322 sold
  • Audi Q5: 22.914 sold
  • Audi Q3: 12,612 sold

Although Audi’s Small Crossover cuts relatively well, BMW has replaced it in both compact and sub -compact categories. The new Q3 from Audi, which was only started last month, could give a certain dynamic in the second half of the year-but it plays catch up.

Limousins: Audi falls, BMW thrives

The Audi limousine is still dramatically below average. In the first half of 2025:

  • Audi A4: 500 units
  • Audi A6: 3,559 units
  • Audi A8: 749 units

In comparison, BMW’s core limousines saw much stronger numbers:

  • BMW 3 series: 14.157 units
  • BMW 5 series: 13,432 units
  • BMW 7 series: 5,707 units

This astonishing inequality shows that the limousine portfolio of BMW on the US luxury market is far more relevant. Audi’s new strategy to consolidate the A4 in the A5 list (which sold 8,275 units) has not yet paid off. In the meantime, BMW 3 series + 4 Series (together 23,369 units) Audi leaves dust.

In the entry segment, the BMW series of 2 moved 9,740 units and doubled the A3 Audi almost at 4,880 units.

Outlook: Can Audi close the gap?

The best hope of Audi for restoration lies in new product launches. The updated Q3 can gain traction, and a newly designed A6 e-tron or Q5 update could change the sheet-but they are not yet here. Until then, BMW seems to be ready to continue its swing and further expand its leadership.
