BMW EVS to get Tesla Supercharger Access in 2025: What you should know about the NACS transition

For North American BMW EV owners, seamless long-distance trips will receive a serious upgrade. Bayern officially appear at the Tesla supercharge party at -although in real BMW fashion, not without Germanic precision and a little waiting time.

BMW has confirmed that the North American Lading Standard (NACS) -TeLas is now in agreement that quickly becomes the outgoing of the EV industry on the entire continent. However, access to Teslas Supercharger network only comes for most current BMW -V owners in the second half of 2025.

What comes and when

According to a dealer bulletin published on October 1st, which is equipped with the CCS port (combined charging system), to which the i4, IX, i7 and the i5 masts are forced to adapter with Tesla supercharger. This adapter is expected to be available at the end of 2025.

Until then, BMW advises customers to stick to CCS1 and J1772 Charging stations to ensure full compatibility and avoid unpleasant hiccups at Superchargers.

The good news? BMW plans a smooth transition. As soon as the adapter is available, existing owners can purchase it, while future BMW EVs begin with the shipping -especially in model year 2025 for selected vehicles and in a broader sense with large updates such as the upcoming NEE class models.

The adapter is constructed and certified according to the standards of BMW, which means that flawless communication between the car and charger, IronClad security protocols and a user experience is ensured that does not affect the reputation of the brand for precision.

As the bulletin clearly states: “It is recommended to only use charging stations that are equipped with CCS1/J1772 connections” until the transition is completed.

Look ahead: New class and local NACs

The commitment of BMW for NACs goes deeper than adapter. As we reported in 2023, the car manufacturer plans to integrate the NACS connection directly into future electric vehicles.
