BMW closed the order books for the M8 coupé in January and signaled the beginning of the end. While the M8 convertible and M8 -Gran coupe sticks around, it will not take long for the other two M flavors to be set. The same applies to the regular 8 series, with the entire portfolio being discontinued at some point in 2026.

What’s next? Well, nothing. A third generation model is not planned. BMWblog Chat with Sylvia Neubauer, Vice President of customers, brand and sales at M, about the future of the M8. In short – there is none. She told us that the M8 “has no direct successor”. Although this is certainly sad to hear, Sylvia suggested that a different performance model could be in progress.

“It is something on the horizon that I probably can’t talk about. Introducing a new concept into a market is always a bit of a risk. There is a very specific project on the horizon that we are currently working on. I think it could be very appealing for many markets in the world.”

The phrasing “new concept” suggests that it differs from what BMW M sells today. The only logical assumption we can do is a fully electrical model. While cars like the i4 M50 and i7 M70 exist, these are M performance models. Sylvia could play on a real M model without combustion. We have to wait to see if it refers to the confirmed M3 (“ZA0”).

Whatever that is, the car is sold. Otherwise, Syliva would not have said that the vehicle would be launched on the market. We can certainly say that the mysterious model is not the radical electric coupé with in-wheel engines that were seen last year. If you don’t remember it, we have attached spy photos below. M -boss Frank van Meel said that the car is not sold to customers, the concept will probably get a real debut.
