The longest electrical model from BMW officially rolls off the assembly line in Dingolfing. The German factory started the series production of The IX Facelift. The start takes place a little more than a month after the world premiere. Despite the polarizing design, the large electric SUV has achieved more than 130,000 sales since its sale in 2021.
The IX is built together with the i5 sedan and the car as well as the flagship i7 together with its combustion engine colleagues. The plant in southern Bavaria produces the 4 and all of their derivatives. According to rumors, the next generation 3 Series (G50) will also be created there. It will certainly not be installed in Munich, since the historical work from 2027 will only switch to EVS.

Codename “i20”, the IX cannot live to see a second generation. As BMWblog reported in July 2024, the next generation X5 (“G65”) will produce a full electrical version. In addition, the new X6 (“G66”) and X7 (“G67”) will probably receive the EV treatment. Another IX would not make much sense, since it brings together with the more established X models.
Since the IX facelift has just reached the assembly line, the silent Luxobarge still has a few good years ahead of it. Our sources near BMW claim that production only ends in mid -2028. At this point we assume that the IX5 has been in production for some time. The two models will coexist peacefully for a while before the IX is retired. Its replacement adheres to the Clar platform of the gas model instead of switching to new class.
For the first time, the IX receives an M sports package beyond the most important upgrades of the battery and electric motors. There is even a high-end m-sports-pro package to spice up things even more. In addition, the adaptation options now contain 23-inch wheels and some fresh colors. Buyers can order the largest electric SUV to wear the round in Space Silver, Dune Gray, Arctic Race Blue and other new colors.
