BMW M2 with the Track package for 2026 start

We have recently spoken about how BMW could follow the M2 CS with additional derivatives of the G87. In our interviews with company officials, we learned that XDRIVE and CSL versions are considered, but no decision has been made yet. In the meantime, M engineers are working on another iteration of the sports coupé.

BMW plans to offer an optional track package for publication in 2026 as an expansion of its catalog M Performance Parts. Since the debut is still far away, the German luxury brand is not ready to reveal details about the new components. However, the strong camouflage of this São Paulo yellow prototype indicates significant changes. The large rear wing immediately stands out, and the front bumper seems to have redesigned aerial photographs. Interestingly, BMW even covered the M2 badge on the renal grille.

The 827 m wheels borrowed from the M2 CS now have a two-color finish instead of the striking bronze gold. However, this package probably contains more than the eye. Expect updates for the chassis, the chassis, brakes and handling. The lessons that were drawn during the development of the M2 race can find their way into this version.

An M2 equipped with the track package remains full and legal. Nevertheless, due to the performance improvements, we expect some compromises in street comfort. It will be interesting to see how many seconds BMW can shave the Nürburgring round time. The standard M2 released a 7:38 a.m. in April 2023, while the CS version achieved 7:25 a.m. last April to claim the record in the compact car class.

It remains unclear whether the Track package is compatible with both M2 variants. If the improvements about competitive sports work, lap times around the Nordschleife could continue to fall. Another unanswered question is whether the package is sold exclusively as a bundle or whether BMW offers individual components as independent upgrades.

The M2 race is available for the ultimate track focus, even though it replaced the inline six for a four-cylinder engine. It is not street legal and has a single seat, although a passenger seat is optionally available.
