BMW M5 receives the factory setting with a new M performance package

For years, BMW drivers in leasing programs have stood in front of a familiar dilemma: Intake your cars and risk headaches in the rental area or play it safe and give back the car. However, this chapter concludes with the arrival of the new BMW M5 (G90) and M5 Touring (G99). For the first time, BMW M parts offered as a factory option, which means that the upgrades are integrated into the leasing contract from day one, so that Bimmetoday.

This new approach is delivered in Germany under the name M Performance Package (option Code 9S1). Instead of obtaining aftermarket parts and later to worry about removing or resale, customers can order aerodynamic upgrades directly via BMW when specifying their M5.

For the BMW M5 sedan (G90), the package covers a front fastening approach, a side skirt extensions and a two-part carbon fiber rear diffuser. Buyers also have to add the M carbon outer package (71 ° C), which includes a carbon roof, a carbon mirror cap and a larger rear spoiler lip. This combination creates a sharper, more aggressive look directly from the exhibition room. The BMW M5 Touring (G99) receives the same carbon fiber improvements as well as characteristic rear side fins near the tailglass. These elements give the long roof M5 a sportier character and underline their role as a family tractor and motorway weapon.

However, there are restrictions. Customers who want a trailer coupling (3AC) are no luck: the rotating ball head affects the diffuser, which makes the combination impossible.

How much does it cost?

The surcharge depends on the body style. The M5 sedan needs € 7,700 for the M performance package and an obligatory € 3.200 for the carbon outer package. Due to its additional components, the touring has a higher premium of € 9,000. Strangely enough, BMW will not yet list the option in the online configurator. This means that interested customers have to speak directly to their dealer when ordering.

What is still missing

Not everything from the M -Performance catalog makes the cut. Objects such as carbon exhaust tip or decorative door pull pictures are still just purchases from Aftermarket. Since they are not installed, they remain outside of leasing contracts, so that customers manage the resale or distance themselves.

At the moment, the option seems to be limited to the German market and the new M5. Whether the idea extends to other highly portraying models such as M2, M3 or M4 probably depends on how enthusiastic customers accept them. However, one thing is clear: BMW has found a way to bring together style, performance and practicality even in the world of leasing.
