BMW Skytop amazes at the Singapore Motorshow 2026

Traditional car shows may be past their prime, but they are still relevant for car manufacturers. BMW started the new year with the Asia-Pacific premiere of the Skytop at the 2026 Singapore Motorshow. Although we’re used to seeing the concept rather than the production-ready version, this was a welcome exception.

The easiest way to differentiate the two is to spot the parking sensors, which the concept didn’t have. BMW has already started deliveries and all 50 cars planned for production have long been sold out. Since the order books are already closed, the company could easily have forgone bringing the Skytop to the trade fair. We’re glad that wasn’t the case, because the Targa beauty deserves the spotlight once again.

It’s highly unusual for BMW to launch a car without revealing its price, but that’s exactly what happened with the Skytop and also the 3.0 CSL before it. In keeping with Rolls-Royce’s special editions, the limited M8-based two-seat convertible is keeping its sticker price secret. However, we learned through the grapevine that the buyers spent around 500,000 euros.

BMW SKYTOP 2

After the Skytop, BMW has already released a shooting brake version called the Speedtop. It is also already sold out, although there will be a longer edition of 70 copies. The coveted two-door station wagon wasn’t at the show, so maybe next year? It remains in the concept stage for now, with production not scheduled to begin until the end of this year.

Hopefully the success BMW has had with the M8 duo will encourage the brand to build more one-offs. There is a dedicated team that specializes in special projects, and we learned that an M car has already been assigned a build site. We also have to wait and see whether BMW ALPINA brings its own exclusive vehicles onto the market. That would make sense considering the sub-brand is positioned somewhere between the top end of BMW and the entry-level Rolls-Royce.

BMW hasn’t said whether it will bring a new concept to the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in 2026, but the event has produced a variety of desirable cars over the years. We hope that this tradition will continue this year, regardless of whether Munich adds a series version.
