BMW Skytop production version that was filmed without camouflage

It is hard to believe that it was a year since BMW unveiled the Skytop concept. The Targa Beauty, based in M8, has still not officially debuted as a production model, but after a new spy video, the unveiling is probably around the corner. The world premiere must be imminent because the company has not even bothered to camouflage this prototype. How do we know that this is the production car? In addition to the obvious license plate, there are also parking sensors.

We use loose “production” because BMW only produces 50 cars. All of them were spoken shortly after the concept of the concept of the concept in May 2024 in the Concorso d’Elanza Villa d’Este. This prototype seems to be a carbon copy of the show car that paid homage to Z8 and 503. It was discovered without a roof, but we know that the skytop contains two plates wrapped with leather. The Targa top is manually removable and can be stowed away in a special trunk.

This is the first BMW production model to exchange traditional door handles for electrically operated winglets. The designers have cleaned up the profile by placing the winglets into the door shoulders that are properly integrated into the belt line. Recently discovered prototypes of the next generation X5 (G65) and X7 (G67) suggest that the same setup also comes for these models, including for the rear doors.

The skytop may be a stanned M8, but that doesn’t prevent it from being wonderful. Is it worth the price of € 500,000 for price? Well, if 50 buyers were ready to pay so much, BMW clearly made the right call. The same applies to his former coachbuilt project, the 3.0 CSL. This M4-CSL-based coupé was said to be even more expensive, with unconfirmed € 750,000.

Skytop is probably the Swan song for the 8 -person cast. Some versions of the 8 Series will be carried out this year, whereby the remaining models are supposed to end production in 2026. AS BMWblog Before that, there were no immediate plans for a third generation. The 8er Gran Coupé could one day return as EV, but nothing is confirmed for the moment.

We could only be a few days away from seeing the skytop ready for production. The 2025 Concorso d’Elanza Villa d’Este, which takes place next week, is a first -class place for the unveiling. BMW has already annoyed the debut of a new single and an M-car, possibly the M2 CS.
