Ai that, ai that. Artificial intelligence plays an increasingly important role in our lives, whether we like it or not. Before it records our jobs, the car seat makes it easier by 0.1%. For example, take the new IX3. The next generation of Bavaria’s electrical crossover has what BMW calls AI supported charging flap.
How is that supposed to work? The EV recognizes when it approaches a loading connection that the driver used before. As soon as they are close enough, the AI determine that you want to charge the battery and open the flap. It also works if you are already out of the car and keep the charger, as shown in the video below. After completing the loading process, the rag closes automatically when you remove the connection. Place or really comfortable?
Of course, an automatic opening of loading flaps is hardly a novelty. Cars like Teslas have had this for years. We have to wait a little longer until BMW explains exactly how KI plays a role here in connection with the usual sensors and what distinguishes them from similar functions that are offered by other car manufacturers.
We know that the IX3 will support the bidirectional charge, although so far no charge of vehicles to vehicles (V2V) has been mentioned. BMW has only confirmed the support for vehicle-to-load applications (V2L), vehicle-to-house applications (V2G).
The loading flap is not the only part of the IX3 with built -in AI. BMW says that the parking functions “include a selection of parking aid services for the AI, the recognition of parking spaces, maneuver planning and an improved parking experience”. In addition, we learn that innovations introduced with the new class are “AI-based, intelligent and update recompatibes”.
We will hear more from BMW about how it plans to use AI to make life a little easier. The new technology of new class will not be exclusively for electric vehicles. There are also cars with combustion engines, starting with the 3 Series “G50” and the X5 “G65” next year.
