BMW X3 M50 receives a subtle body kit from 3D Design

Japan’s BMW tuner 3D Design usually emphasizes class, and its latest project is no exception. Instead of giving the X3 a radical body kit, the aftermarket specialist followed the “less is more” philosophy. The bespoke parts look like they came straight from BMW’s M Performance Parts catalog.

So what has changed? First of all, 3D Design added a carbon spoiler lip to the factory front bumper. The enlarged side skirts, also made of carbon fiber, give the SUV a more muscular profile without appearing exaggerated. Our favorite detail is the rear, where a carbon roof edge spoiler protrudes further than the original part.

If there’s one thing missing, it’s a new diffuser to replace the glossy black that BMW plans to put on almost every model. Luckily, 3D Design is already working on a carbon version to complete the kit. Inside, the pedals and footrest are made from billet aluminum with non-slip rubber inserts, while the new floor mats proudly bear the tuner’s logo.

3D Design’s package for the BMW X3 M50 shows subtlety and is aimed at the “if you know, you know” target group. It’s reminiscent of ALPINA’s XD3, which unfortunately won’t be returning for the G45 generation. BMW continues to lead the brand upwards, concentrating on the 7 Series and X7 at the expense of smaller models.

Another X3 variant that isn’t making a comeback is the full-fat M. However, BMW is reportedly preparing a new Class iX3 M. In any case, the M50 will remain the flagship version with a combustion engine. It’s not the only six-cylinder X3 available, as the 40d xDrive also has an inline-six, although without the M Performance branding as it doesn’t directly replace the old M40d from the “G01” era.

Even though 3D Design has worked on the X4 before, those days are over. BMW is preparing to discontinue the coupe-style SUV, although an all-electric iX4 will likely take its place.
