The 2025 BMW Berlin Marathon will see a new type of Tempoer. The brand new BMW IX3, the first production model of BMW’s new class, leads the field through the streets of the German capital. For many Berliners, it is the first time that they see the next generation electrical SUV on public roads.
The IX3 front
This year’s marathon is expected to draw around 80,000 participants and almost a million spectators. On the front is the IX3 in space silver, which is equipped with the M sports package, 22-inch-y spoke wheels, side foils and a digital timing display on the roof.
Even if the larger bikes reduce 805 to 729 kilometers (WLTP) and the additional resistance of the roof display, the IX3 has more than enough endurance for the event. With charging speeds of up to 400 kW, 372 kilometers of range can be added in just ten minutes – enough to cover a complete marathon distance in just more than a minute if it is ever necessary.
A familiar partner for the marathon
BMW has been supporting the Berlin Marathon for years and delivers vehicles for both athletes and organizers. This time the company uses the event to put its latest electrical model in the spotlight. “The 2025 Berlin Marathon is the perfect backdrop for the first race of the new BMW IX3, in which endurance is everything,” said Christian Oh, head of BMW Germany.
The IX3 will not be alone. BMW offers a total of 65 vehicles for the event, including the IX, i5 limousine and touring, i4, IX2 and IX1. Ten BMW motorcycles and four electric scooters are also used, many of which were built only a few kilometers away in the BMW plant in Berlin-Spandaau. The factory has been producing motorcycles since 1969 and remains one of the most important industrial employers in the city.
On Sunday, when tens of thousands of runners perform 42 kilometers through Berlin, the new IX3 will simply do its work in front of the pack. And interesting enough, our own Chuck Vossler will lead the marathon and bring us live content of the BMW IX3.
