In the BMW M experience at Yas Marina

Under the blazing Abu Dhabi sun, the BMW M5 howled down the long straight of the Yas Marina racetrack, whereby its V8-V8-Turbo-V8 hurled over 700 hp towards the horizon and shimmers from the asphalt. The brake massive M CO2 ceramics scraps hard when I approached the narrow left-hander and rubbed off the speed before diving, and felt the all-wheel drive system that worked his magic to keep everything. The Nordschleife of Yas Marina, where I climb the M5, is built for speed. Its wide, curved corners and long straights are a playground for monsters with high horsepower and are the perfect place to stretch your legs both the M5 sedan and the even more niche counter, the M5 touring. A heavy car that is 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds? This is the type of madness that can only justify BMW M.

Then came the south loop, a completely different animal. Enger, technical, where finesse is as important as brutal power. Here I exchanged smaller, sharper machines against BMW’s: M2, M3 Touring and M4 Coupé.

The M2 was an absolute turmoil, a playful troublemaker in the rear wheel drive, which could go to the side of every corner. The M3 touring felt like the perfect balance – a car that handled a family outing during the day and followed the lap records at night. And then there was the M4, an aggressive, high machine that danced between the handle and strength, a car that felt like me to be a real racing driver when I did things right and a full amateur when I understood things wrong.

It was surreal to blow through Yas Marinas Chicande under the watchful eyes of spectators to drink the cocktails on the W Hotel Terrace. This was not a track-tag this was the BMW M experience, a € 5,490, a speed invitation party in which high-performance machines, luxury and adrenaline tourism collide.

But how did I get the Yas Marina Circuit at all? And what exactly is the BMW M experience?

It all started at Dubai International Airport, where a BMW 7 Series operated on a chauffeur was waiting to whisk me in effortless comfort. The one-hour trip to Abu Dhabi was an experience in the plush seat, the world outside passed in close silence and showed its beauty among the lights. The goal? The W Hotel Yas Marina, an architectural five-star declaration that literally overlooks the Formula 1 cycle. Here I would remain for the BMW M experience – and there I would soon find out that the event was much more than driving cars at the event.

The BMW M Clubhaus: Where Motorsport hits luxury

The first stop was the BMW M Clubhouse, a lounge to celebrate all things, the BMW XM-Label-a 748-PS-Hybrid SUV-threatening in a breathtaking BMW-individual color, flanked by a BMW M4 GT4 Race Car and Walls with BMW Motorsport Memorabilia. Vintage Racing poster, helmets of the legendary BMW drivers, memorabilia of M -cars on the route -This exhibition paid BMW’s racers.

And then there was the BMW Lifestyle Collection, a series of high-end clothing and accessories that are perfect for those who wanted to take home a piece of experience. The participants -a mixture of BMW owners, top customers and brand insiders from all over the world -were reached over the coffee and discussed about their dream -m cars and last track -day stories. It was a place to decompress before the campaign, but also in the history and future of the M -brand brand.

When the sun set, the clubhouse turned into something else: the M -Nachtclub. What was a relaxed meeting point that was a neon lighted, energetic celebration at speed, sound and spectacle. Why should M cars have all the fun?

Right next door was the real pleasure for BMW purists: a BMW M5 exhibition that brought together every generation of the world’s most famous Super sedan. There was an E28 M5, the original Super sedan that brought BMW M to the card. The E34 M5, a favorite of the fans from the golden era of analog driving. The E39 M5, often referred to as the largest sports sedan of all time. The E60 M5, equipped with a V10 derived from Formula 1, which screamed at 8,250 rpm. The F10 and F90, which is each turbochargers, before they arrived to the new G90/G99 M5, the most powerful M5 from BMW.

For everyone who is ever obsessed with the development of the M5, this was the sky.

The next morning, after we pressed several M cars on the border on the racetrack, we moved to Yas Marina’s Dedized Drag Strip. The challenge? Start the BMW XM label and see how quickly a 2.7-ton SUV can really be.

Spoiler alarm: It’s quick. Ridiculously fast.

The XM label in the start control crouched down, and its hybrid system delivered an immediate electrical thrust before the V8 thundered to life and rose down the strip in low 11 seconds. It was a bizarre, exciting experience – like from a cannon, but in a luxurious SUV with a ventilated seat.

BMW had set up the M Mixed Reality Lounge directly above the drag Strip, in which we were able to jump into a Sim -Racing setup with the same steering wheels of the BMW M4 GT3 racing car. The perfect way to cool off before the next crazy round.

The contrast between the High-speed track session and the Relaxed luxury It was striking from the afternoon. After the morning adrenaline, BMW A had arranged Boat trip via Abu Dhabis turquoise water– an opportunity to slow down things and to absorb the city’s striking skyline from a new perspective. It was a memory that the BMW M experience was just as much around Community and lifestyle How it was about raw performance.

Then came BMW M Mixed Reality, a concept that merges real driving with virtual races. A VR headset strapped me in a BMW M4, and suddenly the Yas Marina district was converted into a digital playground. The catch? I still drove – every movement, every acceleration, every brake input took place in the real world, but I visually raced in a gamified universe. The multiplayer mode was even more impressive, which enabled me to go against digital opponents while I still follow the real track physically.

It is still a stunning experience, and above all it was the most futuristic experience with mixed reality that I have ever shown me since the BMW in 2022.

Dinner on the pit lane: the ultimate farewell

After a day with full throttle BMW, things with style: a private dinner directly on the Yas Marina Pit alley. In order to start the night, a BMW M8 competition security car tore off the straight away, and its V8 soundtrack echoes from the box walls, one last memory of what is about M -cars. And just when I thought the surprises were over, Chris Brow, the face of BMW -Youtube videos, entered not for an M -Car demo for two decades, but to rap an Eminem track in front of the crowd.

A wild, unforgettable end of an experience that was about passion. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. Would I recommend bringing your checkbook with you? Maybe you leave that at home – because afterwards the temptation to buy an M car is almost impossible to resist.
