BMW from North America has issued a callback for certain 2025 BMW X3 models after discovering a potential defect with the rear brake hoses that could impair the braking performance and the safety systems of the braking. The recall affects 192 vehicles, in particular the 2025 x3 30 X3 M50 XDRIVE variants, which were produced between February 6 and February 7, 2025 in the BMW plant of BMW in South Carolina over a two-day period.
According to documents, which were submitted to the Federal Supervisory Authorities, the affected supply vehicles were equipped with rear brake hoses (part number 8832138), which may not have been properly cut during assembly. The supplier of the part, HWASUNG TROTOMOTIV, works with BMW to solve the problem. Improper crimps can lead to a brake fluid leakage that can lead to a loss of the rear brake function and a failure of the anti-lock brake system (ABS) and the dynamic stability control (DSC).

BMW engineers identified the problem during a routine brake test on February 7, 2025. A leak was observed in the back brake circuit, and another analysis confirmed that one of the hoses was separated from its adjustment. Additional vehicles were tested, which resulted in similar problems. This led to an immediate vehicle stay and other internal examinations.
In order to alleviate the risk in the event of a brake fluid leak, BMW has programmed the vehicles concerned in such a way that the electronic parking brake is automatically included on the rear axle. This system is intended to help slow down the vehicle and ultimately to stop. When a leak occurs, a warning message and a symbol on the instrument cluster is illuminated in order to draw the driver aware of the possible error.
Fortunately, no accidents, injuries or customer complaints related to the problem were reported either to BMW or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
On March 12, 2025, BMW dealers were informed about the recall and are ready to replace the faulty rear brake hoses free of charge. The owners concerned will receive notification letters by post from May 2, 2025. Customers can check whether your vehicle is subject to the recall by entering your 17-character VIN on the official BMW consumer website.
