Most of us were pleasantly surprised to see the Bovensiepen Zagato in the Concorso d’Elanza Villa d’Este in May. The coupé is a fresh version of the BMW M4 formula and is the creation of Andreas and Florian Bovensiepen, sons of the late Alpina founder Burkard Bovensiepen. Although it has a fixed roof, the car is actually based on the G83 rather than on the G82. The easiest way to see is the lack of B-pillars.
We bring fresh pictures of the M4 and the double Bubble roof written by the legendary Italian design house. Interestingly, the fact that it is based on a convertible may not be the remarkable at the Bovensiepen Zagato. Despite its slim carbon fiber body, the coupé keeps the factory panels under the new skin. Yes, it has double body work. Why? There are two reasons.
Like the original Alpina, the newly founded company based in Buchloe wanted to ensure that the car is as safe as the BMW model. In addition, this aimed to reduce the costs by avoiding the need to homologating them as a completely different vehicle. Despite the additional body panels, it is actually easier than the M4 convertible. With a weight of £ 1,133 (1,875 kilograms), it is 110 kg lighter after the bulky roof mechanism of the G83 has been removed.

The headlight shape is new, but the internal components are transferred from a standard -M4. In the back area, the stylish laser jiggles are also borrowed from the BMW donor car. Beauty is in the eye of the viewer, but we think that the car looks great from every perspective. Nevertheless, a little more interior adjustments would have been welcome. It is the same criticism that we had about BMW’s Skytop and Speedtop, which despite the Premium price signs mostly exceeded the M8 cabin.
Speaking of the fact that Skytop and Speedtop cost 500,000 euros each, a number that is happening in the same stadium as the Buresiepen -Zagato. The pricing for the high-end M4 has not been completed, but we have heard that customers may have to spend between 400,000 and 500,000 euros. Even at the bottom, it is still three and a half times more expensive than a German market M4 convertible.
That is the price of exclusivity. Only a few hundred units are made, each contained an improved S58 engine. The 3.0-liter twin turbo inline-Six wins 79 hp above the donor car and brings the total number to 602 hp. Torque rises by 50 Newton meters (£ 37) to 700 Nm (516 LB-FT). The Bovensiepen -zagato sprints from 0 to 62 miles per hour (100 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds, 0.4 seconds faster than the M4 convertible and a tenth of a second faster than the M4 CS. Flat, it exceeds 300 km/h and surpass the basic car by 20 km/h.
The time will show whether the Bovensiepen Zagato will be successful in view of its high price price. Company details at production numbers and prices are expected in the fourth quarter of 2025, with deliveries shown in the second quarter of 2026.
