BMW’s 2026 iX3 is still months away from reaching U.S. dealers, but one configuration already appears to define the car’s public debut: Space Silver instead of Castanea, paired with the M Sport package. In the bright light of the Spanish south coast, the combination delivered exactly the first impression that BMW wanted for the New Class era – clean, sporty and high-quality at the same time.
Space Silver is nothing new for BMW, but the way it works on the Neue Klasse surfaces is. On the iX3, the shade captures long, uninterrupted reflections along the shoulder line, emphasizing the tighter front end compared to newer BMW SUVs. It’s subtle but present – and when the sun shines on it, the color changes from liquid metal to a warm, almost white aluminum finish. In fact, Anders Warming, Head of BMW Group Designworks, BMW Advanced Design and Design Identity, commented to me during my test drive of the BMW iX3 that the Space Silver best showcases the design lines.
The M Sport package gives the iX3 its real appearance

The prototype in Spain carried the full M Sport package, which finally shows what the iX3 looks like in its more dynamic configuration. The front apron is deeper and the rear diffuser is sportier and more interesting than on the base vehicle. It’s not “aggressive” in the old sense – the New Class is more disciplined than that – but the M Sport look makes the SUV look more stocky and athletic than purely efficient.
In combination with Space Silver, the design appears technically future-oriented without exceeding the scope of a concept car, even if the overall design remains very true to the Vision X Concept. This is the version that most people want to photograph.
Castanea Interior: An outstanding moment in the Neue Klasse cabin

While the exterior draws attention from afar, it’s the Castanea interior that seals the impression as soon as you open the door. BMW has been trending towards warm, natural tones lately, but Castanea takes it a step further – a deep maroon with a subtle matte texture that coats the seats, armrests and trim areas in a way more reminiscent of modern furniture than car upholstery.
In the iX3 it forms a nice contrast to the minimalist architecture of the Neue Klasse. The panoramic display floats cleanly in the interior, the center console is uncluttered (although we personally would have liked many more physical buttons) and the warm leather tone softens what could have been a purely tech-centric interior. If you get the M Sport seats now, they will be more sculpted and supportive.
A setting that makes the car even better

Among many colors found in Spain, including Alpine White, Fire Red (Vegas Red) and Polarized Grey, Space Silver was the unexpected winner of the day. The reflections of the water, white stone and late afternoon sun gave the car a polished look. Several media representatives admitted that Space Silver is “the sleeper color” for the car – one that looks good indoors but is truly exceptional outdoors, where the Neue Klasse surfaces can breathe.
Between the timeless Space Silver, the warm Castanea interior and the sharpened M Sport package, this configuration of the iX3 2026 brings clear shapes, warm materials and a beautiful overall image into focus. If this is the direction the Neue Klasse is heading, BMW could be on the right track with this new design and colors.
