The Volvo ES90 is here to fight the BMW i5

The Volvo ES90 may look like a sedan, but it is not a traditional three-box salon. It combines the practicality of the tailgate of a slanted rearback with the additional ground clearance of an SUV. Although the name indicates that it is an electrical version of the S90 operated by petrol, this is a completely different model. The BMW i5 competitor sits on an electric car platform that is already used for the EX90.

The massive 3.1-meter wheel stand corresponds to the extended BMW 5-series sedan in selected markets such as China and India. It is actually not the first canceled sedan that we have seen in Volvo in recent years. Do you remember the Oddball S60 Cross Country? The Swedes claim that the ES90 is a “class” of their own because it is a mashup of several body styles. Styling is a typical Volvo minimalism, although we also see a lot of polestar.

The slim body has an air resistance coefficient of 0.25 cd, and customers can choose bikes of up to 22 inches. Even the entry-level model receives a generous 20-inch set, which the ES90 also offers a lot of street presence in its basic form. Behind the rear seats are 424 liters of load capacity, which can be expanded to 733 liters by folding the bank. A front case offers an additional 22 liters for the additional practicality, so it is suitable for wearing the charging cable.

The interior has followed the trends of a electric car launched in recent years in recent years. By that we mean a large screen that swallows almost all conventional controls. The jumbo size infotainment has a 14.5-inch diagonal, and luckily the driver still has a separate 9-inch instrument cluster and a head-up display. The cabin sends a cozy atmosphere, and a massive sliding roof floods the interior with light. With an electrochrome version of the panorama glass roof, you can set the transparency.

Let’s talk about specifications. The basic Volvo ES90 is a rear drive with a single engine that produces 328 hp and 354 pound foot. Next comes a dual motor all-wheeler model with 443 hp and 494 LB-FT. Volvo also plans to sell a hotter power model with 671 hp and 642 LB-FT from two engines with AWD.

Stick to the entry-level ES90, and 0 to 62 miles per hour will be carried out in a reasonable 6.9 seconds. The regular dual motor model is rated 5.6 seconds, while the range of range takes four seconds flat. All of them are limited to 112 miles per hour, not to mention the Volvo from any other single car.

The Geely ownership brand promises a 404-mile WLTP range with the 88 kWh battery of the RWD model. The larger 102 kWh pack is equipped with the AWD-equipped models and has enough juice for 434 miles. Volvo gave its first 800-volt-tech with electrical limousine and enabled a maximum loading force of 350 kW. It only takes 10 minutes to put enough juice back into the battery for 186 miles drive industry.

Volvo already accepts orders in almost 20 of the most important European countries, with further regions followed this year and 2026.
