Violent, relentless and literally breathtaking. These were the first three words that occurred to me when I rose from the most powerful and capable BMW ever – the BMW Vision Driving experience. But so much more happened in this test car. Here is what I have experienced.
BMW Vision driving experience at a glance
What happens if BMW engineers stripped off production restrictions and exceed the limits of electrical performance? You will receive the BMW Vision Driving Experience, a prototype to test the limits of what an EV can do. While this concept car itself will not meet any exhibition rooms, the technology – the heart of joy – is very real. BMW claims that this high -performance tax unit is the way in which electric cars drive, feel and react. And after it was put to the test in the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina, it is clear that they are not exaggerated.
New class: the future of the BMW performance
With the upcoming New Class platform, BMW will not only rethink, but also rethink what electrical performance means. At the IAA 2023, CEO Oliver Zipse presented the heart of joy as the main jump in driving dynamics, and BMW’s development manager, Frank Weber, made it clear: this is not just an evolution – it is something completely new. By integrating the drive train, braking, energy recovery and steering into a single high -speed control system, BMW has created a level of precision and responsibility that no EV has yet achieved. And to prove that it can deal with extreme forces, BMW developed it to manage astonishing 13,269 LB-FT torque.
Brakes without brakes?
One of the most fascinating aspects of the heart of joy is how it eliminates the need for traditional braking in most situations. According to the BMW, 98% of customers never have to use the brake pedal when driving daily – rendering brakes will manage almost everything, which increases the stops more smoothly and efficiency increases 25%. The system is so far advanced that when you hit the brakes, the car can include the frictional panes or can only rely on the energy recovery – without ever touching the physical brakes. And to make this innovation tangible, BMW added color -coded bikes that indicate what happens: green for acceleration, blue for rain and orange for friction brakes.
What does this mean for the future of BMW
The heart of joy is just one of four high-performance computing units in the NEE class, which combines everything from performance control via infotainment and automation to a seamless, ultra-response system. The first NEE class production model arrives later this year, which was built in the BMW work in Hungary. But what is most important is the following: BMW not only builds an EV. You make an EV that still drives like a BMW. At a time when most car manufacturers focus on range and autonomy, BMW remains obsessed with steering feeling, chassis equilibrium and driving pleasure. What if the heart of joy delivers? We could finally have an electric car that deserves to be called the ultimate driving machine.
