BMW and Nuna have teamed up on another premium stroller. On paper, it sounds like a typical cross-pollination of luxury brands. But after weeks of testing the SWIV BMW Collection in Chicago—loading it into our i4 and iX, navigating bumpy pavement, and dealing with winter—we can honestly say that this collaboration is kind of cool. The $1,000 Umber colorway isn’t just fake branding. There is a lot of technology behind it to make this stroller something special.
The 360° wheels are actually important

In our opinion, the biggest feature is the 360° rotation of all four wheels at the push of a button. It sounds like a gimmick until you try to turn a traditional stroller around in a crowded restaurant without bumping into three different tables. Then it just feels smart. Draw a parallel to BMW rear-wheel steering in large luxury cars and you’ll get the idea. We used this feature constantly. Tight elevator? Pivot point. Narrow aisle in the mall? Pivot point. Tight parking space? Pivot point. It becomes so natural that you forget about it until you go back to a regular stroller and remember why this one is better. The ability to move the stroller from side to side without the traditional three-point rotation changes the way you move through urban spaces.
Carbon fiber frame and weight

The frame is made of carbon fiber reinforced aluminum. It looks like something from an M Sport package – because that’s the DNA. The weave pattern is distinctive without being obtrusive. You notice it. BMW owners notice. Non-car people just see a nice stroller. More importantly, it’s actually lightweight. The SWIV weighs 21.8 pounds (19.2 pounds without insert, armbar and canopy). The stroller supports children weighing up to 50 pounds, meaning it is suitable for children from newborn to around 5 years old.
Folding with one hand works. Installing it in the trunk of the i4 is no problem. This is important if you do this multiple times a day. The carbon fiber offers an exceptional strength to weight ratio without sacrificing durability. The aluminum makes it practical and corrosion-resistant. We loaded this stroller into our i4 dozens of times during testing. The lightweight design made a real difference – no struggle, no compromises. In the iX we had more space to work, but still appreciated the ease of use.
Integrated security features

BMW has always emphasized that safety plays a fundamental and not optional role. The SWIV reflects this. The self-guiding MagneTech Secure Snap buckles automatically lock into place, so you don’t have to worry about whether the strap is actually secured properly. Although a second check is always advisable. The no-rethread harness system works with a 3- to 5-point configuration and adjusts without having to remove and rethread the straps.
The quick-engaging 1-touch rear brake system is a small detail that makes all the difference. When you operate it, the wheels lock without the horrible grinding motion that leaves scuff marks everywhere.
Drives well over uneven pavement
The SWIV has proven itself here. Chicago’s sidewalks are brutal – disturbed concrete, rough spots everywhere. Cheaper strollers feel bouncy and spongy on such surfaces. The SWIV handles rough road surfaces with real suppleness.
The suspension technology integrated into the seat absorbs energy from uneven terrain. Combined with all-wheel suspension and puncture-proof tires, it tackles Chicago’s dated streets without compromise. It’s also available with all-season seat conversions from insulated merino wool (for cold days) to breathable mesh (for warmer days).
The reclining and comfort functions

The reclining system offers three on-the-go positions, including a near-flat option that can be controlled with one-handed operation. The near-flat position is actually flat enough for newborns, which is important if you’re considering this for multiple ages. The height-adjustable 3-position swivel handle is also extremely useful. Rather than telescoping outwards, it rotates for a more comfortable grip. You can adjust it to your height without contorting yourself.
We also appreciated the adjustable calf support. As children grow, their legs become longer. Instead of replacing the entire stroller, customize it.

The water-repellent sun canopy with UPF 50+ can be expanded with a fold-out eye shade and a peep window. The peep window is practical – you can check on your child without completely dropping the top. The eye shade is a nice addition for bright days.
Integration of travel systems
The SWIV fits all baby seats in the Nuna PIPA series and the bassinets in the SWIV and TRIV series. The included ring adapter with handle integrates into the stroller, allowing for a more compact, one-handed fold that stands on its own. This means you can transfer a sleeping toddler from the car to the stroller without waking them – something every parent will appreciate.
The oversized storage basket holds 22 pounds of belongings. There is also a zippered pocket on the back of the seat for valuables, as well as a secret pocket in the storage basket. The scope of delivery also includes a lot of accessories, such as a cup holder, a rain cover and a carrying bag.
BMW design details without being intrusive

The Umber colorway features the BMW Crystal pattern specifically sewn into the seat fabric with chocolate brown faux leather accents. A metal BMW emblem adorns the peep window flap. The BMW logo is embroidered on the calf support. The rubber tires have the BMW logo in the middle of the spokes and the tread has the BMW Trinity pattern. The tote bag bears the Nuna x BMW co-branding.
The best part? None of this feels over the top. It’s not an ongoing advertisement for BMW. The stroller’s aesthetic strength comes from proportions, materials and thoughtful design. The BMW identity emphasizes this rather than dominating it.
We own several BMWs. For us, this stroller fits naturally into this ecosystem. And honestly, it’s effective branding: our kids see the carbon fiber, recognize the BMW logos, and are one step closer to becoming Bimmer fans.
If you’re a BMW owner in an urban setting with young children, this is worth a serious look in a world where stroller brands are everywhere.
