What is the best used performance car?

When it comes to the best performance of Bang-For-Your-Buck, Chevys Corvette has occupied the throne for a long time. But when it came to the time that I finally turned a shoot in the latest generation, the C8 Corvette, I couldn’t help but refer to the G82 M4. Despite a lot Really Important differences, these two will soon take a similar niche on the market for used performance cars – both in the price (after a few years of depreciation) and the expected performance. It will not be the first opportunity to cross a Vette with a BMW M vehicle, but it could be the most interesting.

The C8 Corvette is mocked (or mocked) as a “discount super sports car”, and this is partly due to what it looks like. While the look is complete Subjectively, I can say the following: The C8 Corvette has attracted more positive attention than any other car I have ever borrowed. People (at least in the USA) love to see a corvette and it is immediately identifiable. The polarizing appearance of the M4 are well documented here and elsewhere on the Internet, and I will not take the point.

The C8 Corvette and G82 M4 deliver in extremely different ways. The C8 offers a 6.2-liter V8 engine installed in the middle of the middle and develops 490 hp and £ 470. The M4 competition is based on a twin turbo inline-Six, which develops 503 hp and £ 479 pounding foot. Both only lead the rear wheels and rely on automatic transmission in eight-speed car in the M4, a double coupling at eight speeds in the Vette.

It should be said that the M4 with all -wheel drive is available if you want it and is also available with a manual. While these two points mutually exclude each other, they could be enough reason to walk with the M4 over the C8.

If you do not need XDrive and do not try to row your own gears, the C8 Corvette offers some different advantages. The steering is more precise and offers much better feedback. It is around 159 kg lighter, the total amount improved, and most of its weight is above the rear wheels, which enables less dramatic (read) starts. The C8 measures six inches shorter in length And Height to continue to contribute to maneuverability. While entry and exit in the Vette are more difficult (unless your M4 has carbon bucket), the driving quality is superior.

There are very few opportunities that the M4 competition feels faster than the C8. One is at high speeds; Travel faster than legal speed, the M4 feels for highway education and tirelessly to build speed. I also think that the M4 feels faster if you don’t get out the car. Despite the very different drive strands of the two cars, the peak output is within 200 rpm (6450 rpm for the Vette, 6250 rpm for the M4). Look at the top torque, which occurs at only 2750 rpm in the M4 and at 5150 rpm for the C8.

The C8 Corvette advertises so much with a driver -oriented cockpit, so that your passenger feels that only the Center CupEholder uses. A bit exaggerated in my eyes, especially if you want to share the driving experience. The vette I drove had comfortable GT seats, comparable to the basic seats in the M4. I think the Vette are somewhat better balanced for the use of road/routes. An eight-inch middle screen is more than enough for me, and the measurement dish is clear and easy to read.

With regard to the appearance, you can reach this configuration in an M4 by buying a pre-LCI model with iDrive 7. Both Idrive 7 and Idrive 8 react more than the system in the Chevy. The M4 has better materials and overall suitable and ends. In particular, the steering wheel, which rightly feels and looks worse than that that I had in an Altima press car from 2025 a few weeks ago.

Price

The C8 I tested was tested for 74,985 US dollars. The M4 I drove was super expensive, but you can get something with fewer options for around 80,000 US dollars. Comparable Vettes today collect 62,000 US dollars on the second -hand market. Used M4 competitions after the LCI are still expensive because they are still fresh, but prices will get closer to the age of the cars. I think both today offer a particularly strong value in the brand of $ 65,000 to $ 70,000.

So, used C8 or used M4?

The strong points of the C8 are the extraordinary handling and the always exciting dynamic. It is also a bit extrovert; Be prepared for random waves and exclamation of the joy of passers -by. The M4 feels more on premium – although not necessarily something special – and is probably better as a daily driver. I will quote the back seat, the available XDrive and the solid trunk as reasons.

The M4 could take itself a little too seriously, and the C8 cabin could feel a little cheap and claustrophobic. But both cars are a remarkable value on the used market and I cannot recommend one thing enough.
