The brand new 2025 BMW M5 is here and brings serious firepower. With a 727 hp plug-in-hybrid setup, it stands against one of its greatest competitors from the Audi RS7 performance, which is still an implicit 630 hp from its Twin Turbo V8. The Audi RS7 actually has the better start. It is lighter and its Quattro system delivers the power supply cleanly from the line. Despite its hybrid torque, the BMW M5 struggles a little with Wheel Hop – probably due to the additional weight. So, from the goal, it is close. The RS7 reaches 100 km/h in 3.42 seconds and the M5 is right there after 3.41 seconds. But then the tables turn. As soon as the M5 gets going, it quickly builds up the speed – really quickly. From 100 to 200 km/h, the BMW crushes it with a time of 7.29 seconds, while the RS7 falls back after 8.48 seconds. Here the M5 hybrid system really shows its strength. In the quarter mile, the M5 crosses the line in 11.10 seconds and defeated the 11.29 RS.

A remarkable observation during the race was the bike heap of the BMW M5 from the line – a side effect of its higher curb weight and the massive torque. Although it is not serious enough to cost the victory, it underlines the challenges of taming this 5,400 pound animal. The RS7, on the other hand, starts cleaner thanks to its lighter frame and the consistent power supply.
The 2025 BMW M5 may be heavier and a little slower off the brand, but as soon as it rolls, it becomes an unstoppable force. The hybrid drive train not only increases the output, but also fills gaps in the torque tax and gives the M5 a crushed mid-range increase.
