Audi has been spotted testing a prototype for an updated Q7 and the tester appears to be in the late stages of development.
The current Q7, the nameplate’s second generation, arrived for the 2017 model year and received its first update for 2020. We’d normally see a prototype for a redesigned model by now, but Audi plans to transition to an all-electric lineup later this decade makes sense for the automaker to keep updating the current internal combustion engine model until an electric successor arrives.
This updated three-row SUV is expected to launch late this year or early next year, likely as a 2024 model. Its arrival should coincide with that of an updated Q8, for which prototypes are also being tested. Both SUVs are expected to inherit design cues introduced on the recently unveiled 2023 Q8 E-Tron, the updated version of the electric SUV E-Tron.
The prototype for the updated Q7 features new bezels on both ends and front intakes that are similar in design to what we see on the Q8 E-Tron. The grille is also new, as are the lights at both ends.

Adjustments should also be made to the cabin, which like the Q8 E-Tron’s cabin should feature new trim materials, including increased use of recycled materials in some areas.
It is not clear what updates, if any, will be applied to the mechanics. The Q7 is currently offered with 248-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged 4 and 335-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6, as well as a 500-hp 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that is reserved for an SQ7 variant.

As mentioned above, Audi plans to transition to an all-electric lineup this decade. The automaker has already confirmed that its last model with a combustion engine will be launched in 2026, which means that the next Q7, if there is one, will most likely be an electric vehicle.
The Porsche Cayenne, which shares a platform with the Q7, will also receive an update shortly. The Cayenne is also expected to become an electric vehicle when it finally gets a redesign.
