Mercedes-Benz AMG engineers were photographed testing a prototype for an updated version of the GT 4-door coupe.
The big performance hatch arrived for the 2019 model year and received a subtle update for 2022. Other major changes are planned for the latest update, likely to be introduced for 2024 to coincide with the arrival of a redesigned GT sports car (see below). ) also for this model year.
A new grille with an eggcrate pattern resembles the design seen on prototypes for the restyled GT. There’s also a revised front apron design that hides under the heavy camo gear.
The prototype is a plug-in hybrid GT 63 SE Performance 4-door coupé, as shown by the charging connection on the rear apron. The special class, which combines a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 and an electric motor for a maximum output of 843 hp, was only released for 2023.

It’s not clear if any powertrain changes are planned, but it’s possible that the various options will be refocused to match the new GT sports car’s powertrain offerings.
Although there are no shots of the interior, we can expect a revised dashboard with the update. The design is said to be similar to the design planned for the new GT sports car.
Look for a debut later this year or early next year.
As for the long-term future of the GT 4-Door Coupé, there is speculation that the entire lineup will be phased out after one generation along with the CLS-Class. That’s because AMG, like the rest of Mercedes, plans to go the all-electric route by 2030. AMG is cooking up its own dedicated EV platform. It’s called AMG.EA and was presented in the Vision AMG concept car last year.
