- Mercedes-Benz tests prototypes for a second generation GLB class based on the MMA platform
- The new GLB class is expected to be debut in 2026
- Both electrical and hybrid drives are located in the pipeline
A newly designed compact crossover of the GLB class is developing as the second member of the next generation of Mercedes-Benz compact family after the redesigned CLA class, which was debut in March as a 2026 model for the USA
A prototype for the new GLB class was rediscovered, with production details such as lights and wheels. The prototype is that an electrical model replaces the current EQB (Mercedes moves from the EQ name practice), but but A hybrid version is also planned. Both versions are expected to come on the market in 2026 and probably reach 2027 models in the United States.
A Redesigned GLA class Compact crossover is also in development and a new version of the CLA-Class shooting brake car. However, new generations of the A-Class sedan and the assembly rearback and the minivan of the B-Class are not planned.
The prototype of the GLB class is strongly disguised, but the overall form seems to be a development of the current generation with a slightly round front end. The new headlights can be partially seen and offer a Mercedes star logo for the day and rotating signals during the day. The rear section has more extensive camouflage, but it seems that boomerang declines are used in the style, which may be connected by a strip of light.

Part of the digital gauge cluster is visible in some pictures. As can be seen in the new CLA class, the new compact family has a dashboard with a wide field, which integrates screens for the digital cluster and infotainment system as well as circular ventilation openings for climate control.
The vehicle drives on the new MMA platform from Mercedes, which was mainly developed for electric vehicles, but also offers hybrid drive lines. For MMA-based EVSMercedes offers the award with EQ technology and offers a selection of single-engine rear drive and dual engine all-wheel drive lines. Once again looked at the new CLA class, the GLB class in the rear wheel drive should be a GLB 250+ with EQ technology Driven by a 268 hp engine in the back, while the all-wheel drive model should be an GLB 350 4MATIC with the EQ technology and adds a 107-hp front engine to the 268 hp rear engine. The front engine is designed in such a way that it is activated at high loads or when detection of slip. More powerful AMG-defined variants Axial flux electric motors and almost 500 hp are probably also planned.
A 800-volt-electric system Enables the high-speed shop with a DC fast charger. The battery should be the same lithium-ion unit of 85.5 kWh (usable), which is located in the new CLA class and should offer a range of almost 300 miles in the EPA test cycle.
For hybrids that are referred to as with the EQ hybrid technology, they expect a newly developed 1.5-liter turbo-4 Coupled with a 27 hp electric motor between the gas engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission with two couplings. The total system output should be around 187 hp. The battery is a 1.3 kWh lithium-ion unit that is installed under the driver’s seat. The front -wheel drive is standard, whereby the all -wheel drive is optionally available.
