Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution is a $2.7 million racing machine

Hennessey has unveiled a lighter, high-downforce version of its Venom F5 two years after the introduction of the all-American hypercar.

The new version is called the Venom F5 Revolution and only 24 examples will be built for worldwide sale, each priced at $2.7 million.

It joins the original Venom F5 and open-top Venom F5 Roadster, which have build runs of 24 and 30 units, respectively.

The Venom F5 Revolution is purpose-built for ultimate performance on the track, yet civil enough to take to the streets. The most important modifications include new aerodynamic elements to increase downforce as well as a revised chassis and a telemetry system for recording all important track data.

There is also a significant weight saving. Hennessey is still developing the car but is targeting a weight reduction of around 100 pounds compared to the Venom F5, which tips the scales at 2,998 pounds. One of the weight saving measures is the addition of lightweight carbon ceramic rotors as standard.

Peak power matches the 1,817 hp of the other Venom F5 variants, all produced by a custom-engineered 6.6-liter, twin-turbocharged V8. The mid-engine sends its power to the rear wheels through an automated manual transmission, likely the same CIMA 7-speed single-clutch design found in the other Venom F5 variants.

For the suspension, Hennessey said it installed new alignment settings, as well as adjustable dampers that can be calibrated for different tracks with simple tools. The company also installed new forged wheels that feature a larger contact patch.

New aerodynamic elements include an extended front splitter, dive planes, an extended rear diffuser and a full-width adjustable rear wing. There’s also a roof scoop that supplies cool air to the engine. Most of the elements help to increase downforce significantly. Hennessey estimates the car will generate 800 pounds of downforce at 186 mph and 1,400 pounds at 249 mph.

The elements also create additional drag, so the top speed is anywhere under 300 mph, Hennessey said. The company achieved 271.6 mph when testing the original Venom F5 and estimates that a speed of over 300 mph will be possible for this car. The current land speed record for a production is 282.9 mph, set by rival American hypercar brand SSC in 2021.

While a top speed record for the Venom F5 Revolution is out of the question, Hennessey may still be open to setting lap records with the car. However, CEO and Founder John Hennessey has previously said lap records are not a priority, but he would welcome any track-focused Venom F5 to achieve a Nürburgring lap time under the magic seven-minute mark. He also said extensive testing at top circuits such as the Nurburgring and the Circuit of the Americas will be part of the development programme.

A final major modification is the addition of a telemetry system that records key metrics like lap times, split times and corner G-forces. The numbers are displayed in real time and can be downloaded for later analysis.

Order books for the Venom F5 Revolution will open following the car’s formal debut at the Miami Motorcar Cavalcade Concours d’Elegance on January 15th. Additional performance specifications should also be released after debut.
