Mercedes-Benz is launching a special edition of its AMG SL 63 in an F1-inspired livery.
Limited to just 100 units worldwide, the Motorsport Collectors Edition has a silver paint finish that turns black at the rear of the car, recreating the look of the Mercedes-AMG W13 E Performance F1 car used in the 2022 F1 season.
Splashes of green on the front fascia, side skirts, rear diffuser and 21-inch wheels represent Malaysian state oil company Petronas, the title sponsor of the Mercedes F1 team. The combination of Mercedes silver and Petronas green has been used by the Mercedes factory team since its debut in 2010, apart from a brief period when it switched to an all-black livery.

Also included is the AMG Aerodynamics package, which adds larger front and rear flics, an enlarged rear diffuser and some underbody changes. The AMG Night Package and AMG Night Package II are also included, adding blackened trim.
Inside, the Motorsports Collectors Edition gets a combination of black nappa leather and microfiber upholstery with red or yellow stitching, and a heated steering wheel with carbon fiber trim. The special edition is pretty well equipped too, with features like a Burmester audio system, a head-up display and an AMG Track Pace data logger for track days.

No mechanical changes were reported. The SL 63 is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 developing 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, sent to all four wheels through a 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with wet clutch. Mercedes estimates 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds and 196mph top speed.
Mercedes have had many successes in F1 in recent years but the Motorsport Collectors Edition marks a low point for the team. Performance dropped significantly in 2022, the first year of sweeping rule changes that reset car design, leaving Mercedes well behind Red Bull Racing.
