The Acura ARX-05 DPi race car does not sell despite a bid of $563,000

Bidding for a 2022 Acura ARX-05 DPi race car on popular car auction site Bring a Trailer ended December 23 with a final bid of $563,000.

While the figure was high, it did not correspond to the reserve price and as a result the car could not be sold.

It can still be traded, however, as the seller, in this case the motorsport division of Honda Performance Development of Acura parent company Honda, stated in the listing’s comments section that it is in talks with the winning bidder to “determine if a deal can be achieved.”

With no active market for used race cars, it’s difficult to determine how much such a car is worth, although given its provenance, the $563,000 bid might be considered low.

The racer is the #10 Acura ARX-05 DPi, built and raced by Wayne Taylor Racing in the 2022 season of the IMSA SportsCar Championship. It was completed in late 2021 and competed in 10 races in 2022. It achieved victories at races at Laguna Seca, Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen and Road America, resulting in it finishing second in the teams championship, behind the No. 60 Acura ARX-05 entered by Meyer Shank Racing.

Power comes from a 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 that was listed as having a peak power output of 600 hp when new. The engine is mated to an Xtrac 6 speed sequential gearbox which has clocked approximately 3,000 miles since installation. The total mileage of the car is about 11,000 miles according to the listing.

The chassis is an Oreca design and features double wishbone pushrod suspension, electronically assisted rack and pinion steering, an air jack system and a brake package consisting of Brembo 6-piston calipers and AP Racing carbon-ceramic rotors. Staggered Rotiform 18-inch forged-aluminum wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport P2L tires.

The DPi class will be replaced next year by the return of the GTP class as the premier class of the SportsCar Championship. The GTP class is approved for both the new LMDh racing cars and the existing LMH cars. Acura will be in attendance, competing with a new ARX-06 LMDh racer.

It means no buyer can field this ARX-05 DPi in future seasons of the SportsCar Championship, although the car would make an impressive addition to an Acura dealership or a well-heeled Acura fan’s private collection.
