In today’s modern age of decarbonization, a vast array of wondrous cars are being produced and teased on the horizon by automakers with seemingly constant releases. Hybrid and electric vehicles that meet different categories and niches, all incorporating the latest technological advances and aiming to offer comfort, luxury and refined driving like never before.
Whilst electric vehicles are environmentally friendly, aiming for zero emissions, performance and longer ranges through the use of clean energy sources, they are not always the most wallet-friendly. Below is a list of five of the most expensive electric vehicles you can buy today or in the near future.

1.Tesla Model S Plaid
First up is the Tesla Model S Plaid. Tesla is considered the market leader in electric vehicles. Tesla currently produces 4 models available for purchase, the Model X, Model S, Model 3, and Model Y. Founded by Elon Musk, the brand is known for the aesthetic center console screen, acceleration, and recognizable Tesla “T.” “ Badge .
This particular Tesla model, the “Plaid”, consists of three motors called “Tri Motor All Wheel Drive” which has an estimated range of 628 km, a top speed of 322 km/h (200 mph) and a breathtaking speed of achieve 0-100 km/h. h (0-100 km/h) time of just 2.1 seconds. However, this improved technology and 1020 hp come at a price. Before any options such as paintwork or upgraded interiors, the base price is $224,990 with estimated delivery in late 2022.
2. Audi RS e-tron GT
The Audi RS e-tron GT 2022 combines battery-electric e-tron technology with Audi Sport performance. The German automaker has created a 4-door, front- and rear-engine, 5-passenger, all-wheel-drive sedan that excels in style, performance, luxury, ease of use and a commitment to sustainability.
The base GT is priced at $100,945 and the RS GT is $140,945. Combined power 522 and 637 hp respectively and a range of 232 – 238 miles. Sticking to RS’s red rhomboid branded models, the RS e-tron GT is no slug, with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.6 seconds, maximum torque of 830Nm and a maximum Power of 440 kW.
Available December 20201, the Audi RS e-tron GT can be yours starting at $139,900.
3. Mercedes-Benz EQS
Synonymous with luxury, Mercedes has introduced the Mercedes Benz EQS, the S-Class of the electric vehicle world.
With exciting features like “Power Nap” mode, which moves the seats to a reclined position, closes windows and blinds, adjusts ambient lighting, plays soothing music and displays a starry sky across the screens. After a certain time set by the driver, it gently wakes the passenger by activating the massage seats and spraying an invigorating scent into the cabin, which later raises the seats.
The rear-wheel drive vehicle will have either a single electric motor on the rear axle or twin axle motors totaling 516 hp. The 107.8kWh battery for the dual motor option has an estimated range of 478 miles and Mercedes says the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes with a DC fast charger.
With an estimated price tag of $124,000 for the single electric motor option and $159,000 for the all-wheel drive variant, now is the time to start saving if you want to travel in comfort and style.
4. Porsche Taycan Turbo S
Beautiful body lines, unmistakable Porsche shape, breathtaking performance and zero emissions, what’s not to love about the Porsche Taycan Turbo S?
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is the fastest 4-door electric vehicle at the Nürburgring, which is not surprising given that Launch Control allows the Taycan Turbo S to go from standstill to 100 km/h (with faster recording) and to a peak in just 2.8 seconds sends speed of 260 km/h, with a total of 750 hp.
With 80 hp more than the Tacyan Turbo, the Taycan Turbo S doesn’t do things by halves. It’s considered one of the least efficient EVs at 68 MPGe, limiting the total range to just 192 miles on a single charge.
However, the Taycan Turbo S Performance has its price for the extreme performance. The top-of-the-line model starts at $186,350, which is more than double the base-model Taycan, which costs $81,250.
5. Clear air dream edition
The Lucid Air is described on the Lucid Motors website as:
“Introducing Lucid Air. The fastest, longest range and fastest charging luxury electric car in the world. With a maximum output of 1,080 hp and a range of over 500 miles per charge¹, it’s like no other car you’ve ever known. All wrapped up in a sleek, efficient design inspired by California.”
The entry-level Lucid Air starts at $69,900, with the Air Dream Edition listed at $161,500, which includes a $7,500 tax credit if you live in America. Offers a range of between 406 and 517 miles, 0 emissions and a charge for up to 300 miles in 20 minutes.
