This isn’t so much breaking news as it is a reminder of why tire choice is important on a modern 911. The Pirelli P Zero R with the N marking, which was specially developed for Porsche, is suitable ex works for the 911 Spirit 70 based on the GTS T-Hybrid. I spent some time driving the car on typical British roads and was convinced that the tire met the requirements: fast road use with everyday usability.
The first sign is steering feel. On the straight, the P Zero R responds cleanly, without the nervousness that some ultra-high-performance tires can cause on poor surfaces. Put more pressure on it and the lateral support builds progressively, making the hybrid GTS easy to place at high speeds.
Confidence in wet weather is a clear strength. On damp and completely wet asphalt, the tire maintains grip under throttle and trail brake inputs and then signals approaching the limit with a small but useful warning. This makes the 911 feel friendly rather than prickly on a cold morning drive. Noise levels are well controlled when cruising and the ride remains comfortable enough over long journeys, even on mixed urban surfaces and in the ragtop convertible.
The P Zero R is not a racetrack special, but the control window is wide enough that you can lean on it firmly without it quickly becoming greasy. That being said, I did tire the P Zero R on the track in heavyweights like the M5 Touring and G80 M3, the performance was amazing given the physics and forces at work. The Trofeo RS takes track performance to new levels and is N-rated for speed freaks like the 992 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Pirelli has developed a Trofeo RS blend for the upcoming McLaren W1 hypercar, complete with MCL badging.

The N rating is important. It refers to a Porsche-specific construction and mixture that is tailored to the chassis tuning, stability systems and hybrid calibration of the GTS T-Hybrid. In practice, it is this integration that gives the combination its simple, cohesive feel.
If you’re considering a Spirit 70 or any 992.2 GTS T-Hybrid on factory tires, the P Zero R remains a well-considered choice. It offers grip, clarity and elegance that enhance the character of the vehicle without stealing the spotlight.
