2025 JD performance study exhibits BMW below average

Let’s be honest: people don’t buy BMWs because they are reliable. In fact, reliability has never been the strong point of luxury cars. Sure, the consensus is that Lexus is usually better than the others, and the first quality of the USAM 2025 -us -AM 2025 confirms the premium brand of Toyota with fewer problems reported by the owners.

Lexus led the list in the 39th edition of the study. The drivers reported 166 problems for 100 cars from the Japanese luxury brand. BMW did not also have 196 editions that were somewhat worse than the industry average of 192.

BMWS, which is half full of the glass, are actually more reliable than in the initial quality of the USAM 2024, when the owners reported 206 problems. In a further positive note, the car manufacturer based in Munich is far ahead of its domestic competitors. JD Power crunched the numbers and found that Mercedes had 210 problems per 100 cars. Audi changed dead with a whopping 269 editions. Infiniti and Volvo also rank near the floor with 242 or 258 problems.

If you have a Z4 of the current generation, you will be happy to hear the Graz plant in Austria, where Magna Steyr gathered the Roadster, received the Platinum Plant Quality Award. However, the G29 is not long for this world, since several reports indicate that production ends in May 2026.

With regard to the data acquisition process, the owners were asked to respond to 227 questions during a study between June 2024 and May 2025. Outer; Driving aid; Inner; Drive train; Seats; Driving experience; Climate; And a category for unusual repairs.

The study also included awards according to the vehicle segment. The BMW X7 triumphed in the category large premium SUV, while the X6 came first below the upper middle -sized premium Suvs. However, the smaller X4 lost in the Compact Premium SUV segment against ACURA RDX and Lexus NX. In the meantime, the 2 Series were beaten by the Acura Integra in the small premium class. Overall, the Porsche 911 became a big winner.

You could argue that BMWS can become more reliable with the spread of the new class, since EVS have far fewer mechanical components than combustion engine vehicles. On the other hand, it is advisable to stay careful with so much new technology on the horizon. Even if BMW does not grant reliability prices, it is still the top priority in the luxury segment in terms of sales.

JD Power also found that luxury cars have 4.2 -times more problems than mainstream vehicles. Another interesting finding is that plug-in hybrids are most susceptible to problems. There are 237 problems for 100 PHEVs, a little more than the 212 problems registered by EV owners.
