BMW has recorded several times to say that a super sports car has no priority. With a new class around the corner, the company has to fry larger fish. However, this does not mean that special models that are separated from the regular list are not from the table. When the speedtop was approved for production, we speculated that its success could encourage higher ups to do other limited models too greenish.
We are now happy to be able to report that our presumption was valid. In an interview with BMWblogSylvia Neubauer, Vice President of Customers, Brand and Sales at M, confirmed that the Small Serie team from BMW has secured a slot for an M model:
“We are discussing things, but we have to find the right time. Be insured, we share the same dream and the same passion. We spoke to Adrian van Hoydonk [Head of BMW Group Design] And the team that carries out the small series planning and there is a slot that is reserved for BMW M. “
It has not given any details, and it is unlikely that they will soon arrive the above -mentioned priorities. But if this is the case, it should be a real performance car. While the Skytop and Speedtop M8S with the 4.4-liter V8-S63 engine with two turbo are, both tend to be towards Grand Touring. In particular, the striking duo of Targa and Coupé do not wear Madges.
Whatever is in the pipeline is likely to be less expensive than the 3.0 CSL, which had an unconfirmed price of € 750,000. For comparison, the skytop and speedtop were not quite as cost -intensive, but at € 500,000 they were anything but affordable. Nevertheless, BMW had no problems finding buyers for both the 3.0 CSL and the skytop. The order books remain open for the Speedtop Shooting Breme, although it was only about a month since it was unveiled.
In the same interview, Sylvia indicated that BMW M was observed undeveloped segments:
“We always remember where there could be potential markets for the future. We often do this together with ours [BMW] AG colleagues because we need a basic car and then transform it into a high-performance model. There are some ideas that we are currently discussing with our AG colleagues. “
It is still too early to say whether these ideas are connected to the program of the small series, but it is clear that BMW is going out something special to supplement its core M line-up. It will probably not arrive today or tomorrow, so patience will be the key. Logic informs us that future models with limited runs would also be based on existing products.
The development of a new vehicle from scratch to sell just a few dozen or even a few hundred units is not financially profitable. Therefore, BMW continues to hesitate to build another super sports car as a follow-up to the M1. Enthusiasts are aware that the E26 had a restless path to production due to financial difficulties in the late 1970s after the withdrawal of Lamborghini. The next BMW came next with the Mision, but ultimately the electrified super sports car was founded.
