2025 Mini John Cooper Works Cabrio (F67) drive check

It is a unique liberating to drive a Mini -John Cooper works, especially today when this segment shrinks. I recently carried out the latest iteration of the legendary open top hotel HATCH-DES F67 from 2025 for an enthusiastic shoot to see whether Mini has retained his fun-loving spirit while introducing a newly discovered refinement. This time it was Savannah, Georgia’s cobblestone and picturesque charm that became the backdrop of my journey, and while the local roads did not drive Nirvana exactly, I still managed to hunt a few winding side streets to push the latest convertible from Mini.

Drive train and performance: more torque, more fun

Under the bonnet is BMW’s trustworthy 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine from B48 with 228 hp and an impressive torque of 280 LB-FT significantly from the previous generation. Power is sent to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) with its own qualities and defects. More on this in a second. Mini claims a sprint of 0-60 miles per hour of 6.2 seconds, but my real tests have proven even faster. During my first run I followed 5.94 seconds, followed by a second attempt to impress 5.82 seconds. This JCW clearly has more than enough speed to grin enthusiasts from ear to ear.

The additional torque compared to the previous generation-5 FB-FT-ENTEREN significantly, especially if the car is switched on into the iconic “go-kart” mode in which the acceleration feels immediately and powerful. However, I noticed that the DCT occasionally hesitated in standard drive modes when it flew it out of standstill -some mini shares with several BMW models such as the X1, X2 and the new 1 series. Fortunately, switching into the “go -kart” mode has a lot of alleviating this delay. It is fair to say that most of the delay can only be felt in the low speeds and in the normal driving modes.

Driving dynamics: Minis go-kart-DNA is still there. Something

The 2025 Mini JCW Cabrio has not lost its playful essence. With its extended track and newly sitting 215/40 tires, compared to 205-section gum, the grip values have improved noticeably, especially paired with the 18 inch continental summer tires. The steering remains fairly sharp and reaction fast, but with a lack of feeling from the front tires. The body role is minimal, and the car feels impressively tight and composed, obliges that you are in go-kart experience mode. The chassis still has a torque control, especially under hard acceleration, but it is gracefully done, which does not affect the excitement instead of affecting it.

To make a deeper intervention that the JCW convertible handle spoke to the Mini product manager Vikash Joshi without a fixed roof. I specifically asked whether there are differences between the F66 JCW Hardtop and the F67 JCW Cabrio – especially with regard to the chassis tuning, suspension behavior and the general structural rigidity.

The short answer? No, the core structure is identical between the two models. However, the longer explanation shows that the historically mini -convertible contains additional reinforcements in the chassis to compensate for the lack of a roof. These built -in structural carriers ensure that the F67 remains rigid and composed even under a lively curve. They do not sacrifice this classic mini mercy for driving with open air.

Good
  • Playful performance with an additional torque
  • Improved driving comfort and versatility
  • Unique Cabrio Fun factor
Bad
  • Limited trunk
  • No manual transmission option
  • Simplified brake system

The new John Works Coopers has mechanically adaptive dampers – in contrast to the electronically controlled setups, which can be found in many BMW relatives of Mini. This simpler design does not absorb bumps on rough roads so smoothly, but it really comes for yourself when you push the car to its limits and provide a sharp, foreseeable handling where it counts. Better, the suspension setup supports coilover modifications for the performance-oriented driver, ideal for those who could occasionally get on the way.

Despite the decision of Mini to ward off the Brembo’s Bremen brakes in favor of simpler single piston brake calipers, the braking force remains robust. Sure, the Brembos offered a superior track performance, but the new JCW brakes proved to be perfect in my spirited road tests.

External design: slim and sporty

Aesthetically, Mini decided on a slimmer, polished outer design. The F67 JCW Cabrio now plays cleaner lines, shiny black pull around the radiator grille and the wheel boxes, updated LED headlights and taillights and new JCW badges. The Checker flag pattern on the soft top is another nice gesture that underlines the playful character of Mini.

As for sound, the exhaust provider has also changed. Instead of dual pipes, there is now a single outlet in the back with another hidden under the bumper. The valve on this opens over 3,000 rpm, but I would still not call it loud. Admittedly, the fake exhaust noises in the cabin are somewhat satisfactory.

Interior and technology: refined, but quirky

Inside, the new 2025 Mini JCW Cabrio is no longer known. The traditional mini instrument cluster has disappeared and is completely replaced by a striking 9.4-inch Samsung-Oled touchscreen, which performs the latest mini operating system 9. Although I am visually appealing, I missed critical information directly behind the steering wheel. There is still a helpful head-up display, but the adaptation to the new layout requires some to get used to it.

The JCW-specific interior mixes vegan leather and sporty fabric pads with typical red accents and offers an excellent side strength, especially when driving enthusiastically. The cabin maintains the quirky charm of Mini, even if the plastic switch and buttons have raised questions about their quality. The knitted fabric also gives me curious about its long -term durability. Although Mini assured me that numerous shelf life tests were carried out on this knitted substance.

Mini has thoughtful the functions of the advanced level 2 driver assist functions such as the adaptive speed control, support of the lane and the augmented reality navigation, which significantly improve comfort and security for daily driving. You can also choose “experiences” between seven different driving and further personalize the digital interface and the general vehicle feeling.

Cabrio top: practical and funny

The F67 continues the tradition of Mini to use a unique three-stage convertible soft top. It can sometimes be like a sunroof or a complete withdrawal in just 18 seconds at speeds of up to 18 miles per hour ideal for spontaneous top-down moments. The cargo room in the new JCW convertible is a noticeable hit compared to the hardtop. The tailgate opens in a drop-down fashion in the pickup truck style and only reveals 7.59 cubic foot memory and this shrinks to only 5.65 cubic feet when the roof is lowered. Mini offers a problem bypass: you can lift the rear glass and fold down the rear seats to make room for larger objects.

On the positive side, Mini keeps things with a quirky function called The Alway’s Open Timer fun that follows.

Daily driving is better

Regardless of whether you cross the streets of the city or attack curvy side streets, the F67 JCW Cabrio feels at home. As expected, the journey is somewhat hard in the “go-kart” mode and transmits the imperfections with streets directly to the driver, which is the point. Mini purists who love this raw, networked feeling will feel like at home. However, softer modes smooth the driving quality and make the car more comfortable for daily driving. The steering becomes easier and gas reactions milder, which offers quieter behavior. While long-term enthusiasts could easily shell towards comfort, the compromise makes the JCW convertible a better all-round-day driver.

Last thoughts: more sophisticated disaster

The 2025 Mini JCW Cabrio is undoubtedly a more sophisticated approach for the legendary fun driver formula of Mini. Yes, the lack of a manual transmission is very noticeable – this mini screams after changing the switch. The shifting of brembos to simpler brakes could also disappoint disappointments. Despite these small concessions, the car remains deeply committed, strives to dive in corners and promote playful driving on every opportunity.

In short, the 2025 Mini JCW Cabrio is still the caffeine-containing Jack Russell the automotive world glow more grown up, but just as much to play. The 2025 Mini JCW Cabrio has a start -UVP of $ 43,700. The start of MSRP excludes the goal and the processing fee of $ 1,175.
