BMW began series production of the iX3 at its new Debrecen factory in Hungary last month. However, deliveries to customers in Europe will not begin until next spring. Meanwhile, “NA5” continues its European tour, performing at regional events across the continent. The last stop was Amsterdam for the Dutch premiere of the first modern model of the Neue Klasse.
Because good things come in twos, BMW has decided to present the all-new iX3 in two different configurations. Both electric crossovers have the largest wheels available at market launch: 22-inch wheels in M and Individual designs. Both also come with the M Sport package, but the Pro version goes one step further. The easiest way to recognize them is by the black exterior mirror caps on the M Sport Package Pro model.
We would have chosen different colors to better distinguish the two vehicles, but BMW chose to display both in Space Silver. As seen at other preview events to launch the iX3 in regional markets, a classic Neue Klasse model was also part of the exhibition. The Dutch division brought a 1963 BMW 1800 TI (Turismo Internazionale) from the original NK series. It was actually a hotter variant developed in conjunction with ALPINA, a brand name now wholly owned by BMW.

It’s easy to see where BMW drew inspiration for the shape and proportions of the new front grille. However, not all modern Neue Klasse models will adopt the vertical kidney design. Future cars, such as next year’s i3, will have a horizontal grille that extends to the headlights – a layout first shown on the 2023 Vision Neue Klasse sedan concept. Crossovers and SUVs will retain the iX3’s vertical kidney arrangement in the future.
As with all 2026 iX3 prototypes shown so far, this is the 50 xDrive, which will be the only variant available at launch. Further versions will follow shortly, including the 40 xDrive and 40 sDrive, which have already been confirmed by BMW. Spy photos also suggest that a full-fledged M variant is in the works. Positioned between the standard range and the flagship M model will likely be an M Performance version, possibly badged M60.
Debrecen will not be the only production location of the iX3. A long wheelbase version (NA6) will be built in Shenyang, China, starting in 2026. Starting in 2027, the San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico will assemble the standard wheelbase model.
