The BMW M Drive Tour has been a tradition for several years. It’s a great opportunity for the brand to showcase the depth of its M portfolio and the wide range of configurations available. Fresh pictures from Bulgaria show all the fan favorites from the current lineup.
Participants who register for such an event are in for a real treat. BMW organizes test drives where you can try out different M models and experience their different personalities. The M2 is the most playful of the group, while the M5 stands out as an all-rounder. This is particularly true in touring form.
The highlights of the gallery include a special M4 CS and an M2 souped up with M Performance Parts. The G87 features a carbon fiber body kit and a titanium center exhaust exhaust. The M4 Cabriolet is relatively rare to see at events like this, so it’s nice to see a few G83s in attendance. It’s almost impossible to pick a favorite, although we’d probably lean towards one of the M5 cars. The G99 is the car most people will ever need.
BMW didn’t specify which cars were equipped with a manual transmission, but we assume some of them had three pedals. Of course, the M4 Cabrio and M5 are only equipped with automatics, as they are only sold with xDrive. While M says there is still sufficient demand for manuals, it’s hard to imagine the 6MT surviving beyond this decade. The current generation of M cars is likely to be the last to feature a stick shift as electrification advances to meet stricter emissions regulations.
However, there is still time to control your own gears in an M car. The M2 and M4 are expected to remain in production until mid-2029. The M3’s days are numbered, with the G80 reportedly set to retire in early 2027. Although the G84 successor has been announced, we previously reported that it might only come with an automatic transmission.
In addition to gearboxes and the wide mix of M models, these images also show the vibrant individual color palette. It’s like an M-branded Skittles festival, complete with the occasional Frozen matte finish for those who want to stand out even more.
