The M235I race, M240I races and M2-CS races come aside to make room for the new BMW route weapon. Although it only steps into the grid in the 2026 season, the racing car, based in G87, performed at the DTM season kick-off in Oschersleben at the weekend.
With a starting price of € 98,000 (before options and taxes), the M2 race is anything but budget-friendly, but it is still a relative bargain compared to 219,000 m4 GT4 EVO or the EVO of 578,000 m4 GT3. BMW did not plan the hood in its unveiling to show the “Dirty Little Secret” of the car: a four -cylinder engine is powered. That is correct, the M2-NUR-M2 exchanges the strong S58 inline-Six of the street car for the smaller 2.0-liter turbo B48.
The reason? Lower running costs and less weight. In a way, this strategy tends to the original E30 m, which is generally considered the most successful touring car of all time. With a shift of 1,988 cc, the new M2 racing is in the series, in which competing on series that are limited to engines with smaller insurance companies.
In almost every other consideration, however, this is still an M2. BMW uses as many standard components as possible to make it affordable for customer race. The most important upgrades include a GT4 sourcing exhaust, 18-inch wheels (exclusive to this model), macrolone polycarbonate rear side windows and a synthetic material fronts.
You will also recognize quick publication locks on the bonnet and trunk. Although this special car did not have it, a rear wing is optionally available. The standard specification includes a single seat layout, but buyers can choose a passenger seat for race tracks by driving. The racing car also receives a carbon fiber roof and is painted in alpine white alpine.
BMW has already tested the M2 race through around 30,000 kilometers. The next big challenge is in June at the 24 hours of Nürburgring. BMW developed the car for a wide range of international series, including:
