2027 BMW X5 interior was first uncovered

The BMW X5 of the next generation (Codename G65) takes shape on the inside and outside. New spy photos give us a detailed view of the interior of the SUV for the first time.

Inside the prototype, the dashboard is dominated by the new BMW panoramic view. This wide glass screen extends over most of the dashboard and integrates both the instrument cluster and the central display. It looks identical to what we have seen in the vision of new class X Concept and the IX3 prototype, and the latest iDrive X software is executed.

The middle screen with its unique shape measures 17.9 inches and there is no longer any iDrive controller. Most functions are treated by touch or voice, and the haptic buttons on the steering wheel replace many of the physical controls.

There is also a newly designed steering wheel. It can be seen in the last BMWs in the last BMWs. This special car seems to be an M power model that is assessed according to the Red 12 o’clock marker and the Marben seams on the edge. The marker himself looks slimmer and integrated than today.

The center console is minimal. There is a small equipment selection style-noching butcher and a rotary volume button next to it and a single button nearby. That’s it. BMW clearly presses a cleaner layout and relies more on digital inputs than on physical switches.

This is probably the BMW X5 M60E plug-in hybrid

This prototype is not the purely electric IX5, which can be seen in previous tests. Instead, it is the plug-in hybrid X5 M60E. You can see from the quad exhaust pipes on the back and the loading connection on the front left fender. This combination of visual information points to a PHEV and especially on the M60E variant.

This setup is probably based on what BMW already uses in the M760E XDRIVE limousine: an inline-six-loaded turbo-loaded inline-SIX with an electric motor. The output should be north of 550 hp. It is a step of the current X5 XDrive50e, but not as extreme as a complete X5 M. The goal is the performance with better efficiency and electrical reach.

The full electrical IX5 is still coming

In addition to the M60E, BMW also develops the IX5, which will debut with the same generation. It is expected that it is over 600 hp and the sixth generation of the sixth generation of the sixth generation of BMW is expected. This means more range, faster charging and a better energy density, although the car still drives on the existing Clar platform. It is not a new class EV under the skin, but the technology moves in this direction.

External details and design changes

From the outside, the new G65 X5 clearly absorbs some new leave features. The kidney grill is larger and framed by LED light strips. The prototype also has new door handles – or rather a small winglet that acts as a hidden opener – similar to the vision of NEE class X as well as concept cars such as skytop and speedtop.

The rear end is still strongly camouflaged, but the roof line appears a little more inclined than before, which gives the SUV a coupé-like attitude. The familiar shared tailgate seems to remain.

Production time bar

BMW does not rush this one. The next generation X5, the internally encoded G65, will not enter production until August 2026. This means that customer deliveries are at the end of 2026 or early 2027 depending on the market.
