Apple’s new CarPlay Ultra system is finally here and brings production vehicles in the car a more urgent version of its interface in the car. But if you are a BMW driver who hopes to get it soon, don’t keep your breath. A BMW AG spokesman confirmed this week: “BMW currently has no plans to integrate Apple CarPlay Ultra.”
This is repeated what the company said in 2022 when Apple priced the next generation software for the first time. Although BMW was originally listed as a future partner, the company has not changed a course.
What CarPlay Ultra actually changes

In contrast to the standard version of CarPlay, which is limited to the main infotainment screen, CarPlay Ultra extends across all displays of the car in one of the instrument cluster, the head-up display and even passenger screens. In addition, drivers can fully control vehicle functions such as the climate, media and navigation via the Apple interface. Siri language commands, Apple Maps in the speedometer and personalized widgets are part of the package. Aston Martin is the first car manufacturer to offer it. Others such as Hyundai, Kia and Genesis are expected to follow.
Why BMW says no

Instead of integrating CarPlay Ultra, BMW allegedly concentrated on its own operating system – the drive X. The system will debut in the new BMW IX3 and spread in all future NEE models. Idrive X contains a function called panoramic view that projects information on the bottom of the windshield. It is designed in such a way that it is part of a fully native BMW environment that is closely integrated into the digital design and user experience of the brand.
This level of integration is probably a reason why BMW does not concern the deeper takeover of ads in the car in the car. From now on, platforms from third-party providers such as CarPlay and Android Auto remain available to the main screen in limited capacities.
Who supports CarPlay Ultra?
While BMW comes out, the current list of car manufacturers is planning to support CarPlay Ultra from July 2025:
- Acura
- Aston Martin
- ford
- genesis
- Honda
- Hyundai
- Infiniti
- jaguar
- Kia
- Land Rover
- Lincoln
- Nissan
- Porsche
BMW is not on the list and is not so soon based on the latest explanation of the company.
