As Porsche 911S in the Mexican plant of BMW built

Porsche and BMW are brands that often have the spotlight. Thanks to a similar focus on motorsport, driver engagement and performance, there are also many crossover in the fans. Perhaps it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the Teutons actually even shared a production room, albeit now almost thirty years ago. As early as 1995, the boys in Stuttgart typed the burgeoning global presence of BMW to jump Porsche’s presence in Mexico – and the factory that used them apparently brought some very interesting models into the world.

BMW Toluca (short) was also Porsche Toluca

Already in 1995 (yes, that was really 30 years ago) BMW opened its first meeting in Mexico in Lerma, Toluca, Mexico. BMW imported here as in many other markets components, so that the final assembly takes place in a country with otherwise unfriendly tariffs and taxes.

BMW 3 series and 5 -series cars gathered here, rather pedestrian models for local and global consumption. Porsche clearly thought that it sounded like a great idea, and the following year the same started to do exactly the same in exactly the same plant. A limited production of around 75 units was the first time that Porsche vehicles gathered outside of Germany. It was also a historical moment in working with car manufacturers. Don’t worry: it will be much more interesting.

When the time marched and the presence of BMW increased the meeting, Toluca’s focus changed. Perhaps the most interesting BMW model that was assembled there would give the E70 X5 Security Plus in 2009. For the unknown, BMW outfits with a higher trim models with a bulletproof glass, Kevlar, newly coordinated suspension components and much more.

These super safe vehicles, usually SUVs and 5 or 7 or 7 models, are perfect for the kind of people you would expect to need a armored vehicle. As it turns out, Porsche might have borrowed more than just the facilities when they built 911 in Mexico. Since at least one Porsche 911 -Cararrera model also received safety treatment through secret customer order.

You may have heard that there is only one armored 911 out there – the turquoise dragonfly car that made ends meet a few years ago – and that could be true. However, a source indicates that around 100 were manufactured. Let’s be honest, it would Be in the best interest of the customer that people believe that only you left the factory. Regardless of this, the 996 tank contained many of the same things that it finds in the BMW security models such as ultra-dicker glass and a body with bullet deflecting material. In this case it is dyneema.

BMW’s system made it possible Porsche to jump to Mexico distribution

Regardless of how many bulletproof 996 models came from Toluca, Porshce placed the use of BMWS systems for success on the Zufenhausen car manufacturer. Mexico demands from car manufacturers to produce vehicles within the borders of the country before the distribution, and this was only the gaps that Porsche needed. A dealer in Mexico city in Mexico city gave birth to the almost 50 Porsche dealers in Mexico and South America, including almost a dozen shops in Mexico. Would Porsche be sold by BMW in Latin America without help? Probably. But BMW has certainly accelerated things.
