BMW advances education with the donation of a MINI Countryman

It looks like BMW is being generous these days. A few days after an iX was donated to a vocational school in Nabburg, the keys to another electric crossover were handed over. This time a MINI Countryman SE ALL4 will support the municipal vocational school for metal processing and automotive technology in Regensburg.

While the iX was worth around 91,000 euros, MINI’s first electric crossover is predictably cheaper. Nevertheless, in this configuration it is still worth an impressive 64,000 euros. Judging by the details, it appears to be a top-of-the-line John Cooper Works trim. Aside from the car’s value, the most important thing is that everything serves a good cause. The vehicle will play a key role in practice-oriented vocational training and support students in preparing for their future professional lives.

Although the handover event was organized by the BMW Group plant in Regensburg, the electric vehicle was not actually built there. This third generation model is assembled in Leipzig. However, its predecessors were outsourced: the second-generation Countryman was produced by VDL Nedcar in Born, Netherlands, while the original model came from Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria.

While these were the main production locations, local manufacturing also took place in markets such as India, Indonesia, Brazil, Thailand and Malaysia. The current model “U25” is also assembled in Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the BMW plant in Regensburg continues to work on other models, particularly the X1 and X2 and their electric variants. 342,521 vehicles were produced in 2024, a massive 43.7% increase over the previous year. Regensburg was actually the third most productive plant in the global BMW network last year, behind only Dadong (China) with 343,973 units and Spartanburg (USA) with 396,117 SUVs.

BMW has already announced plans to produce a Neue Klasse electric car in Regensburg, but has not yet revealed which model it will be. All signs point to either the i1 hatchback or i2 sedan entering production there around 2028, but we’ll have to wait for official confirmation.
