BMW does not exclude an M2 -CSL, but nothing has decided

BMW launched the second generation M2 a little more than two years ago and has already improved the G87 formula twice. In 2024, the sports car in the rear wheel drive received an additional power of 20 hp when the automatic model also received a torque of 50 Nm (37 LB-FT). A few weeks ago, the competition was added even more inline-six muscles and lowered the weight. What comes after the M2 CS?

MS Ingenie forem of M has already confirmed that the long-term XDRIVE version is considered. While a decision is still pending, Dirk Häckker also touched a hardcore version. Yes, a CSL. Last weekend, during the 24 hours in the Le Mans, we asked if a competition lightweight is a possibility:

“I think it is one of the options that we may be able to discuss in the next few years because we started the car two years ago. It could be an option. The point is the next big step to increase performance? It is possible, but there is no decision to do this.”

Similar to an all -wheel drive M2, a CSL is also a potential candidate to expand the attractiveness of the G87. If it happened, it would decrease even more weight for the 30 kilograms that are lost through the CS in Europe. In the United States, the M2 CS shed almost 100 pounds. The first to go would probably be the back seat if you consider that the Big-Brother M4 CSL was also a two-seat matter.

BMW could also increase the 3.0-liter twin turbo engine by another 20 hp for a total of 543 hp to meet the M4-CSL. Logic suggests that an M2 -CSL would probably skip manual gear because the 6 -MT restricts the output of the engine. We also believe that the CSL would only stay in the rear wheel drive because XDrive would add weight.

The pricing would definitely be in a six -digit area. An M2 -CS is already over the $ 100,000 brand and costs 98,600 US dollars as well as additional fees for target and handling fees of $ 1,175. Add the $ 8,500 carbon ceramico brakes and the $ 3,000 individual velvety blue color, and you are already over this threshold. The CSL would probably master a premium about a potential XDRIVE version, so that a price of around $ 130,000 does not appear far. After all, the M4 -CSL was assessed at 139,900 USD (plus 995 US dollars for target and handling fees).

If the M2 -CSL is on the agenda, it will probably arrive according to the XDRIVE model. We have heard that BMW will build this generation of the M2 up to the second half of 2029. There is enough time to open the ultimate version between the start of the XDRIVE model and the end of production. There was a CSL (F87) during the previous generation, but unfortunately it remained a unique. It was kept secret for a while before the M Division discovered the Wild Coupé in 2022. It seems that the G87 has a better chance of maintaining the CSL treatment.
