China holds the i3 sedan to itself, but things will be different with the next generation. The current EV, which is based on the ubiquitous Clar platform, will be in retirement to make a Nee-Baum-based successor. This time BMW will sell the car all over the world. In addition, a long-wheel derivative for the Chinese market is in progress.

Before the world premiere next year, the standard -i3 stars in a new spy video. Recorded in Northern Europe, the film material shows several prototypes of what BMW describes as “NA0” internally. As in previous cases, we have the impression of a somewhat smaller sedan than the current 3 “G20”. It is refreshing to see classic silver wheels again after years of black and two -colored surfaces.

Hiding under the swinging camo is more or less a production version of the 2023 Vision New Class concept. BMW introduces a completely new design language that follows the “Less Is More” approach. The dismissed styling should bring smooth surfaces that remove from the current approach on your face. We will first see the new look on the IX3 in September before all models hug it this decade. Not only electric cars, but also those driven by combustion engines.

Similarly, the minimalist interiors are shared between the ice and EV models. BMW has already given us a precise preview by unveiling the new iDrive. It is based on a large middle screen that you cannot control via the usual rotary button. The conventional dial/controller on the lower center console will not be installed in future models.

BMW has confirmed that the i3 will enter series production in Munich next year. We heard that it should reach the assembly line in July 2026, so that the world premiere could be about 12 months away. Expect a broad line-up with rear and all-wheel drive versions, including a hot i3 M60 XDrive. An electrical M3 (“ZA0”) is said to be intended for a start of the late 2027.
