BMW is sending the Z4 off with a Final Edition – but Europe gets the better deal

The Z4 won’t be around for long, but before it’s gone, BMW is giving it a proper farewell. While the Final Edition in the US is limited to the pricey $78,675 M40i, Europeans have more choice. The sporty roadster can also be ordered on the continent in the cheaper sDrive20i and sDrive30i equipment variants. These four-cylinder models are offered alongside the popular M Performance variant with an in-line six-cylinder.

Prices for the final edition vary depending on the features

In Germany, the Final Edition is a 4,200 euro upgrade for the sDrive30i and M40i. If you opt for the base model sDrive20i, you’ll pay a whopping €7,400. The reason is simple: The Z4’s last hurray is only available with the M Sport package. It’s standard on the sDrive30i and M40i, but not on the entry-level model. For the affordable sDrive20i it is a 3,200 euro option.

Differences between the USA and Europe

The differences between regions also extend to the exterior colors. While Americans stick with the Individual Frozen Black, Europeans can choose from all of the Z4’s regular colors at no extra charge. Regardless of the paint finish, the Euro-spec Final Edition gets the same red brake calipers and Shadowline trim as the US model.

Inside, the two versions are cut from the same fabric. Or rather, made of the same Vernasca leather and Alcantara. Red stitching runs throughout the interior and is complemented by a “Final Edition” logo on the door sills. Whether you choose the manual transmission or the Steptronic, the prices remain unchanged.

Order dates and end of production

BMW will begin accepting orders for the Z4 Final Edition from European customers at the end of January, with production ending in March. The US version will stick around for a little longer, with the final car set to roll off the assembly line in April. As soon as production ends, Z is history.

No matter the region, there is no indication that another Z car is on the way. BMW plans to launch 40 new or revised vehicles by the end of 2027, but a fourth-generation Z4 is not among them. When the New Class restarts, volume models will have priority, starting with the iX3 and i3 sedan next year.

As a result, a niche model like another Z car isn’t high on BMW’s priority list, making a new Z4 seem unlikely this decade. Nevertheless, we have hope Future (German for “future”) will return one day.
