BMW IX5, IX6 and IX7 receive gene6 batteries and engines

BMW has generously shared details about GEN6 batteries and electric motors before the IX3 starts this year. However, the entire discussion has revolved around new class, which means that we are wondering whether vehicles on Clar would get the next generation hardware. We have now learned from sources that are familiar with the matter that round battery cells and more efficient engines come to models that share architecture with their gas fights.

The X5, X6 and X7 of the next generation will stay on Clar, but their fully electrical derivatives will inherit the NEE class technology. This means that IX5, IX6 and IX7 will benefit from cylindrical cells with 20% higher energy density than today’s prismatic cells. In addition, the area and charging speed increase by 30%. As a result, the IX5 should conveniently defeat the range of 701 kilometers (435 miles) offered by the new IX XDrive60. Similarly, the owners have available more than the 217 kilometers (135 miles) in IX XDrive60 after 10 minutes.

Apart from massive improved batteries and 800 -V tech, the new electric motors bring several advantages. BMW has announced that it will reduce energy losses by 40% and to avert the weight by 10%. New class models combine two different types of engine by using an electrically stimulated synchronous engine (EESM) and an asynchronous motor (ASM). The latter is only used for XDRIVE models at the front, so BMW does not start NK models with front-wheel drive. It also indicates that future electrical minis will probably have a layout in the rear wheel drive.

The ASM will be available in two flavors: 161 hp (120 kW) and 241 hp (180 kW). The EESM can produce between 270 hp (200 kW) and 402 hp (300 kW). Depending on the application, new class models have one, two, three or even four engines. According to BMW, it can reduce production costs by 20% compared to current electric motors.

The IX5 is expected to list the three future electrical SUVs. The next generation, recently discovered as a plug-in hybrid, has an unconfirmed production of production in August 2026. This would mean an official revelation in just more than a year from today. The X7/IX7 (G67) should follow in August 2027, with the X6/IX6 (G66) arriving in April 2028.

BMW has already confirmed that he will build at least six electrical models in Spartanburg by 2030. The luxury car manufacturer did not indicate whether they are based on the new class. It was also not said whether everything will be SUVs, but that seems likely. Another piece of the puzzle that we are currently missing is whether the existing EVS will be used. We mainly talk about the 5 Series LCI and 7 Series LCI.
